Great music for a low price Aug 11, 2011
Rockwood has two stages which show different kinds of music everything from bluegrass to R&B. The stages are small and give the place an intimate feel. I been here a couple of times and i love the place. The crowd for the most part is caucasian but it depends on the night and the music playing. With that said as a black woman I did have one negative experience with a waitress who would not take my drink order(yes i was 100% sober and 100% nice) and she just treated me unfairly. This was not the case with other waiters. They do have a one drink minimum per set which can be any kind of drink. Thats not a bad deal for the night. Sometimes if it is a special artist there is a small cover charge.

I happen to love live music and Rockwood in my experience allows one to get up close and personal with upcoming bands. From what i hear some people that have played here have made it to stardom. It has a garage feel which allows one to mingle. Overall despite my negative experience i think rockwood is an awesome place to go on a date or with friends.

Awesome bar with live music Jan 04, 2011
Rockwood Music Hall is a fantastic place consisting of three different rooms, 1 bar and 2 bars with live music. They have a bunch of bands every night. The line-up can be checked on their site, often times no entry fee is needed. Sometimes you do have to buy a ticket for an artist, but with two venues right next to each other you always have a choice. And if you don't like the music in one place, you can easily go next door.

You do have to be over 21 and bring an id which will be checked. The drinks aren't very cheap, but they aren't anywhere in this area of Soho really and a minimum of 1 drink required for each set. But any time I was there, the music was good and more than worth the visit. I would say most of the music is indie, although on each Tuesday they have a jazz band playing. The sound was excellent in both bars. If you're looking for a good place with live music in New York, this is one of venues I would recommend (although New York is without a doubt loaded with good places).

This is a great place for drinks and live music. The bartenders/wait staff are extremely accommodating and friendly. Check there website for a listings of shows. Been there many times and always had a great time.
