Rocklands Bird Sanctuary Montego Bay Reviews
Spectacular experience Jul 25, 2010
Up in the mountains of Montego Bay, you will find tucked away the bird feeding station / sanctuary, the owner Fritz is extremely informative and friendly... He will give you a bottle full of sugar and water which you are to hold out in front of you and then hold your finger opposite the bottle this is to entice the birds to come over to you, then he will pour some bird seeds in to your lap for the smaller birds. The Jamaican mango hummingbird and the Doctor bird are just 2 of the amazing birds you will see at this place as they whizz around and hover above you like little minature helicopters, they will come and sit on your finger and feed from the bottle in your hand. The bird sanctuary is a lovely, quaint and peacefull place to sit and enjoy the experience of feeding these wonderful tropical birds. We saw ground doves pecking up the larger seeds that had dropped to the floor. Admission is 15 US Dollars per person and you can stay as long as you like. Pure tranquility.
Tip : bring a drink of water/juice with you if your planning to stay for a while as there are no shops there and you'll have to go back down the mountain (which isn't the easiest task in the world) if you get thirsty.
