Spacious room but very noise Dec 31, 2016
We booked this place as this is the cheapest place we can find which cost NZ$101 for a private bedroom with an en suite bathroom, for two people without breakfast. The location was fantastic, it is right at the city centre with many cafes and restaurants, and walking distant to the lake, the garden and other interesting sights in Rotorua.

Unfortunately we were there during the New Year Eve, so everything was shut down and we can not find any restaurants open except the Chinese restaurant next door from the hostel, and the cluster restaurant or pub near the lake. So yeah…. unfortunately no fancy dinner during the New Year eve.

We arrived too early and we have to wait to get the room at 12 pm. However the reception register us when we arrived there and it takes a while for her to do so. After that, we just park our car outside (free parking during public holiday), and we get out to explore the city and then come back again. The room was ready when we comeback. We get 2 set of keys and numbers to enter, to open the door to the hall to go to the room, and the free wifi password. The internet was reliable and quite fast.

Our room located at the third floor and no elevator unfortunately. However the walkway was okay without step until the second floor and then normal steps toward the third floor, and it was an easy walk, as we do not have our luggage and only have our backpack.

The room is spacious around 25 sqm, but quite barred, with only one double bed, and a big windows facing toward the city area, a couple of chairs and table, and a steel furniture to put our stuff.

The bathroom was small but function well and soap and towels was provided. The bathroom smell mouldy and the fan in the bathroom sound very loudly when we turn it on. It remind me of the old plane engine in the 80s.

The next room neighbour was very loud and we could hear it from the room until late night (after midnight), and the room itself was pretty hot at night time since there were no air condition. I keep opening and closing the windows to get a fresh air, but it was plenty of mosquitos so I closed the windows again. I could not sleep well here, too hot and to noisy to my liking.

There is a couple of kitchens at the second floor for guests to use it, however we did not use it. There is a climbing wall and many free space around the area for guests to use. I am not sure if you have to pay or if it is free as I do not use it.

Plenty of information and map from the reception area. We booked the Maori culture performance and dinner from the reception and it was okay. However they do not pick us up from the hostel, we have to walk around 100 meter to the pick up area, and the tour drop us back at the same location.
