Rock Hostel Km 0 Jul 31, 2016
Rock Hostel Km 0 is raggedy, rocking, wanna be party hostel establishment in Buenos Aires. Its location is very good, a short walk from most of the subway lines and longer walk to most of the attractions or interesting places around the town. It is located on the Plaza del Congreso which is a beautiful plaza with few gardens and artworks, nice open space where you can demonstrate or raze hell against the government. As the plazza’s name says, Congress building is on one end of the plaza, and it is an impressive building. Hostel is called Km 0 because this plaza is the Km 0 for many roads that go all over the Buenos Aires.

Hostel building is on the street corner around middle of the plaza, and to get to it you’ll have to go up the steep stairs. Rock hostel has two floors and the rooftop, but they also have little music studio in the separate part of the building. On the rooftop they have some kind of stage and it looks like live shows are norm in this place… Most of the staff speaks English and most of them are very good, pleasant and want to help, but night staff are a bit unruly and only have interest in beer and other drinks. First floor has larger dorms that are a bit tight with space and there are bathrooms that are very stinky. For bathroom I always used the second floor bath and shower which is decent. There is good amount of hot water coming out and that’s very important.

First floor has a small kitchen that has sink that is always clogged and dirty but that’s probably because there are too many people that are trying to make some food and do budget thing. There is not really reason for budgeting because you can eat very good for $15 per day. Hostel dorms are $8-10 depending of the room and I am suggesting the smaller rooms because they are way more comfortable and located on the second floor which is cleaner, less noisy and closer to the good bathrooms.

Bottom floor has a nice living and chilling area that you use for breakfast and relaxing during the day (WiFi is all over the place but the best around this area). During the night it is different story… Music is much louder, the doors are not closed so there is no way you’ll enjoy your sleep. Lots of people use two small balconies to enjoy their smokes but they don’t close the balcony doors so you are exposed to the smoke in full…

Few block away you’ll find Av. Callao which has lots of pizza and empanada places that work pretty much all the time, so you won’t get hungry. Most of the places close for siesta therefore you’ll need to plan a bit. Down the Callao Av. You will get to the area that has incredible number of theaters, shows, nice restaurants in the hidden courtyards and generally fantastic place to enjoy your nights.

Anyway, it is an interesting place, definitely cool and interesting for some, but for rest of you there are many different hostels in Buenos Aires and you’ll easily find the perfectly suited one for you.
