Robata Bar Santa Monica Reviews
fancy schmanzzy robata bar Mar 07, 2008
Robata bar is a part of the family of restaurants that include sushi roku and katana amongst others. it is a bit fancy although one does not need to dress up to the nines.
i like to think of robata bar as a japanes tapas place. robata, however, just means grilled and in skewers. food is served family style and in small plates.
we started off with the poochi poochi, which is sparkling sake. this was sweet and pretty delicious.
we then had the seaweed salad which was a bit tangy and had a nice crunch. this was quite enjoyable.
we also shared a reinterpretation of a nigiri sushi - the rice was fried and crispy and there was fresh yellowtail on top.
we then had asparagus with bacon. the asparagus was crunchy and the bacon was not too fatty.
the chicken wings were also pretty good. nothing fancy but it was on the sweet side.
we also had the shrimp tempura, which i enjoyed. the shrimp was not overloaded with batter but it had the nice crunch and sweetness.
finally, we had a chocolate souffle with ice cream. it was not the best i have tried but it was not bad.
robata bar is actually a fun place to check out if you are in the area.
