Affordable with just a short walk to the beach Apr 14, 2009
If you want a primitive campground for a decent price, less than one block from the beach, this is the campground for you. Not all of the sites are primitives though, as you can stay at RV sites, sites with electric and gas, and cabins. For the price, between 30 and 40 dollars a night for a tent site, you also have access to private showers, a pool, and the beach, and the campground is only a short 15 minute drive from Savannah, Georgia, a city featuring one of the nicest and most expansive historical districts in the U.S. One thing to note however, if you do plan on staying at the River's Edge Campground, pack extra bug spray as the noseeums are quite vicious down there. Another fun fact: open containers are legal in Savannah and Tybee Island as long as the beverage is kept in a plastic cup 16 ounces or less.

River’s Edge Campground of Tybee Island Dec 14, 2008
River’s Edge of Tybee Island is the only camp ground owned & run by a city municipality I known of or have stayed at. River’s Edge is in a beautiful area of Georgia, with many things to see & do with in a short distance. Savannah is only a short drive; there is a lot to see without ever leaving Tybee island!

The standard T-Shirt & Tourist Trinket shops are in abundance. There are some artisan shops that are well worth looking into. The beach & pier are very nice, got these at home so I didn’t spend too much time here.

The camp ground is well maintained with a friendly staff looking to make your stay a good one. The camp store was well stocked, the bath house clean at all times. Wi Fi worked well (who would have thought this was important to campers just a few years ago?) The Unfortunates Of Rivers Edge; sites are too small & crowded to close together. Fellow Campers & Camperettes were much too close for comfort! Where are the rest of the trees? There is a definite lack of shade in a large part of the of this camp ground. Sparsely designed with no vegetation or any type of privacy-enhancing features, like a bush or a tree even a little one. Great area will try a different campground on the next trip to this scenic part of coastal Georgia.
