River Parks Saarbrucken Reviews
A River runs through it Dec 16, 2011
Saarbrucken was built along the Saar River. Located in the town are more than a couple of parks for people to enjoy the river.
The first area is Potato Island. This area is on the south side of the river. It has a bar and seating area. There volleyball pits, a play area for children, seating under tent, and other items. Please visit saarstrand.de to see photos of the area.
The next area is across the river from Potato Island on the north side. This area is just a very large open park. People will just walk along till the find a spot to stop at. There is an area that serves beer and sometimes in the summer ice cream.
Trees provide the shade in this area or you need to bring your own. Most people are here to catch some sun in the summer or have a quick picnic. Pets are welcome and the Germans provide bags a points for people to pick after their pets.
If you follow the walk path from the public area going east (away from the shopping district) you will come across a peninsula island in the river. Another nice spot to stop and sun your self.
Families and single people will mingle and sometimes you might find people playing a game of Kubb (Swedish in origin) or something. There are two playgrounds for children.
Remember to stop along one of the cafes in St. Johanners Markt for something to snack on or stop at the Apotheke for sun screen. Yes you need it in Germany!
