Riu Tikida Garden Marrakech Reviews
'Safe haven in a city of comotion' Sep 20, 2011
Having stayed in a 5* Riu hotel in Mexico, having that 'wow factor' i thought this hotel would be great in a city of madness. The atmosphere in the hotel was good, a safe haven away from all the comotion. The hotel grounds (especially at night) are very beautiful and constantly cleaned....
The rooms were cleaned at around 3pm. Could do with some bleach for the bathroom as this wasn't up to scratch the whole visit. Do not expect a power shower either. The general cleanliness of the hotel was good and the waiting staff couldn't remove your plate quick enough which was much appreciated.
The food was very repetitive but a good standard. The Moroccan restaurant was 'ok'. The drinks were fine, not watered down. As long as you stuck to a cold beer, wine or spirits. The cocktails were very dissapointing.
The entertainment throughout the day was great. Lots of activities going on to include, waterpolo, aqua aerobics, stretching (supposed to be yoga which i swear they made up as they went along lol). Salsa lessons, darts and table tennis. Allsorts going on and the entertainment staff were brilliant, really funny friendly chaps.
The entertainment in the evening was completely naff. We named it 'the caravan club'. The lounge singer wasn't of 'x factor' material lol and I found it pretty boring to be honest, it was the same most nights, him singing over a backing track. Karaoke wasn't brilliant, they only had 700 songs - if you were to see the list it was mostly male orientated and Barbara Streisand so not accomodating to those of a younger generation. I found this a great shame as I love karaoke, with the power of the internet they could really get any song so very dissapointed.
They had a belly dancer come in one night and a lady who had candles on her head which was interesting to watch! The disco started later, was a bit like dancing in your front room but i believe (after speaking to staff) that there will be lots of changes made in upcoming weeks. A new disco downstairs, named drinks and a good shake up within the resort. At the moment the hotel is very old fashioned and needs some modern sparkle added.
If you want to sunbathe you have to get your towels out before 8am. Then you have to stay there till 8am. We didn't really find this a problem as there are enough loungers as long as you put your alarm on.
All in all my advice would be to give a small tip on the first day to the cleaners and then at the end of the week, if you are happy with service of course. Be careful of taxi drivers charging too much. You can get a taxi to the square for about a fiver, don't pay more than that. I hope the Riu name will precede itself and they go ahead with the changes. From my experience, I would rate this hotel a 3*, not a 4. All in all, I was happy with the room, the staff were friendly enough and the hotel was a safe environment. It's a good base if you are going out most days or nights. Or there is always the games room, full of scrabble boards!
