An excellent introduction to Venetian cuisine Oct 01, 2012
Dinner on our first evening in Venice was at Ristorante La Terrazza, just a short way from Piazza San Marco. the restaurant is on Calle Goldoni, overlooking the Orseolo Canal. Dinner was a traditional multi-course affair. As might be expected, Venetian cuisine is seafood based, combining it with traditional Italian styles. La Terrazza popular and so is quite busy.

Perhaps owing to Venice's time under Austrian rule, or due to the number of patrons, the restaurant staff were meticulously organized. After the orders had been taken, a card was left at each table recording exactly which seat had ordered which foods. The waiters had no trouble bringing the correct selection to the right spot--until I picked up the card to look at it!

But let's talk about the food. It was great! The antipasto was Antipasto de Frutti di Mare (Shrimp and Calamari Salad) a traditional Venetian appetizer. First course (pasta) was Lasagna. Now this was absolutely the best lasagna I have ever tasted! My Second Course was grilled San Pietro fish (Dory) with thinly sliced potatoes. Susan ordered Veal for her Second Course. Tiramisu all around for dessert!

A great welcome to Venice!

Usually restaurant reviews are boring because we all have different taste bids. But I loved your comments on the organizational skills...:)
