Lack of care brings punishment Dec 07, 2010
Risin was a wich; 'og' means 'and'; Kellingin was a giant; they were Icelandic and were sent by the giants of Iceland to bring back the Færoe Islands.

Kellingin stood in the sea and Risin went on shore to attach a rope to the highest mountain and lower it onto Kellingin's back. She tied the rope round the mountain of Eiðiskollur but (would you believe it?) the rope broke - mistake no 1.

Mistake no 2 was to have far more serious consequences for the pair. They failed to notice that it was becoming lighter - and consequently were caught out by the Dawn. I am sure you know the fate of witches and giants caught out like this doesn't everybody. They were turned instantly into sea stacks.

I know this must be true because I have seen the stacks and the crack in the mountain where the rope was attached. However, if you are less credulous, at least believe this. They make a great view. Oddly enough the website fails to mention a (FREE!!) telescope beside the mountain road from Eiði to Gjogv, which gives the best view, though the one it mentions from Tjornuvik is nothing to sneeze at.
