Rishikesh is so far, by far my most favourite place up north. Its just so clean, the ganges is glorious and clear you can see the bottom and the fish swimming from the bridge.
I was desperately disappointed when we were dropped off at the very beginning of the town as it is quite ugly and there is nothing to do except wander aimlessly and get hopelessly lost in the alley ways.
After a few hours of this we decided to get in a rickshaw and ask to see a temple. It wasn't a …

Another balmy sunny morning. My trip was so far blessed with good bright weather atleast. Would be perfect weather for an adventure on the river. I finished my breakfast by 9:00, got rid of everything except my clothes and reported at the adventure firm, ready to be whisked off for the rafting excursion. In a half hour we left, to gather the other folks who would raft with me.There was to be one guy from Kolkatta, and 3 old Irish ladies for the rafting trip. I wanted to do the big rapids and …

Ok so we have finally made it to Rishikesh, and I must say for the first 3 hours or so that we wasted walking around in the south part, I was not at all impressed!!! Again we sat to collect our thoughts, and our next plan of attack where to go. After not being so well yesterday, I ordered the plainest thing on the menu - Mahed potato with fried onion. What I got looked like slop from a soup kitchen....actually where we were eating looked like a soup kitchen! Anyway it …

Beautiful ganges flows down the city, with two beautiful bridges on top of it. namely Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula, I could see fishes from the bridge, eagerly waiting for fish food to be thrown down from the bridges by pilgrims. such is the clarity of water.I was rather surprised to see the number of foriegners in the area, although Rishikesh is a prominent pilgrim place for Hindus, so i was expecting lot of pilgrims but to my surprise i could find stunning number of foreign tourists and it wa…

05-11-2008Henni: This is our last day in Rishikesh. We just had our final yoga lesson and now we are heading to Pyramid Café for our last supper here. In the end we spent a really nice week here doing three hours of yoga every day and some trekking the rest of the time. So it was actually quite a sporty week. With yoga I can feel the huge difference what eleven yoga lessons make, and besides that our yogin Parveen Badoni just told me I’m flexible enough to move on the intermediate level……

I can't believe how hard it has been to find internet lately! Anyway, my train from Varanasi to Delhi was five hours late, meaning that instead of getting in around noon so I could do some sightseeing, I arrived just before sunset absolutely starving. I found a nice little coffee shop to eat before meeting Kuni who had the train tickets for the next leg of the journey. Kuni is a Japanese tour guide who actually lived near Mankato for awhile, but now lives …

Word of advice!: Rishekesh is not that nice - it is best to make your
way up to Ram Jula or Laxman Jula - if you take one of the shared
rickshaws from the train or bus station the correct fare per person is:
From Rishekesh to Ram Jula = 3 Rupees.. from Rishekesh to
Tapovan/Laxmanjula = 5/7 rupees. From Haridwar to Laxmanjula = 25
Rupees. This is no matter if the rickshaw is empty or half full as they
pick people up along the way - so please don't be conned with the
70-100 rupees fare t…
