So here we were - Youth Hostel York. As always in Hostels I found it very tricky to return at night and go to bed without making a sound - not waking up ur roomies - especially as my little lamp over the bed didn't work. I managed anyways to find my tooth brush and safely climb up the ladder. Slept quite well despite some snoring older lady which turned out to be very nice the next morning. Fountains Abbey was built about 800 years ago and was operated for about 500 years. About 300 years ago it was abandoned and it eventually fell into ruin. It's one of the most popular sites in England's National Trust, with over 300,000 people visiting it annually.We visited on a Sunday and there were a lot of families, but because the place was so huge it wasn't a problem getting to see any of it.
