Riomaggiore (Cinque Terre) : In Ligurian waters.

“Yippee!” Time for some underwater action!  Having grown up by the sea and being a regular(ish) swimmer back home, after 30 days plus on the sunny road without a splash it’s time to wet my head.  I am very fortunate as Bede, also a diver, is just as keen as I am (even more so) to dust-off his rusty diving skills.  It’s been 2 months for me since I was last submersed but 3 years (!!!) for him.  There is a dive trip provider here in Riomaggiore also which is great! …

Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre

Rome, Italy -› Palermo, Italy -› ...
Riomaggiore is just such a relaxing place to stay in, after my flight was delayed and a lot of pottering about on trains and platforms for 13 hours, arriving in the little town was like suddenly taking a load off my back. The houses are all brightly coloured, and it really has a holiday feel to it. Getting off the train, the first thing you are greeted by is a sight of the fantastically blue sea, sparkling and clear waters framed by dramatic rocky cliffs. I knew I was going to like it here. …

France to Italia!

After meeting a friendly french biker in Monaco who advised us of the sights and sounds, we toured Monaco on foot. Many thanks to that unknown named friend. Not long after we crossed the border into Italy. Took the slow road towards the cinque terre, up and down the mountains, (adelaide people, imagine devils elbow upon itself many times over, but fun and slow and safe, parents). Made it in time to a beach town one stop from the cinque terre, for a swim at the pebbly …

We both woke a bit tired and lethargic considering all the walking we had done yesterday and then all the drinking we did last night. But we got our bags all packed and checked out. Our plan from yesterday was to catch the train to Vernazza and then do the final walk to Monterosso but after hearing that walk is quite challenging and not really being in the mood we opted to go to the cafe and have some breakfast and relax. After some toast and coffee and some diary writing w…

While attending the Andrews University MSA program at Villa Aurora, Florence, Italy almost all students went on a one day trip to the coast visiting the five villages called Cinque Terra. It is a very nice place where you can hike from village to village or take the train from one village to the next. The "best" village I thought was Vernazza but if you are into the beach, you should go directly to the last village Monterosso.

Spent a week (short!) in different parts of Italy, driving around, photographing and tasting some great wines. A beautiful country with friendly people and lots to see; Italy's not only Firenze, Rome and Milano - it's much more!

Ah Riomaggiore, I love this wee town. Its actually part of Le Cinque Terre which is five coastal villages in the province of La Spezia in the Liguria region of Italy. Its the first of the five villages and it is gorgeous. We drove along to it and parked the car at the top of the place. We walked right down to the bottom which is where the photo was taken. Although it does look like a busy wee village, we were lucky if we bumped into 10 locals at the most. There was also a wee bus wh…

This is my 3rd time to Cinque Terre (meaning 5 Lands). And each time, it gets more beautiful - if it's possible. There's plenty to do, with hiking the trails to each village, taking the train, swimming (even nude), or exploring the villages and experiencing it all.
