Rio!!!!

Well what can we say except that we want to go back, we loved it and it is AMAZING! We had 5 days and managed to pack in so much...We started off on Ipanema beach (which is the area of Rio we were staying in) - all I can say is it was a stunning beach. In the afternoon we went on a favela tour. This was fascinating as we were taken to Rocinha, the biggest favela in Rio with more than 120000 residents. There were police at the edges of the favelas but they didn't go in as inside the fave…

I just got back from the most amazing week in Brazil, it is a contender for my favorite country ever. Great food, great music, great people, great beaches. I now have a couple days to write 2 essays and an internship project before Mom gets here and I play tour guide, so I am going to just put up the photos with captions so you know what I was up to and get a sense of how great it was, and hopefully when I get back to the States I will have enough time to write a better journal about the trip…

Down at the Copa, Copacabanna.....
posted by:
Jul 10, 2007 - Sep 04, 2007
After our long journey back from Foz we arrived in Rio and went to our first destination the Copacabanna were we stayed at the hostel - Stone of the Beach. The hostel was just as we expected, so friendly and in the heart of one of the most vibrant and famous areas of the city. The Copacabanna is exactly as glamourous as one would expect, actually even more so. It reminded Emma of LA with men working out along the boulevard and women as scanterly clad as you would expect!! There seems to be …

25 August:Didn´t do so much today, updated the travbuddy and then left our Hotel Atlantico at noon to move to the Hote Angrense, about a 10 minute walk away, and slightly closer to the actual beach at Copacabana.  Went for a walk aong the beach with HJ and her new room-mate, Susanne, and had a cold coconut along the way.  Had lunch at the per kilo place from our first stay in Rio, then had a siest!  Had our first group meeting tonight, and then all went to a BBQ buffet restaur…

Last night at the Garotta de Ipanema, this is where Jobin and Gilberto wrote the song, Sudzi, Dave Wylie and I had a fantastic night with a crazy party going on all around us. We met some wonderful happy people,  there is no doubt about brazilians, they really know how to party.Wednesday I am off to the big apple, NYC.

Home sweet home. Stopped quickly at Copacabana to wish a happy new year to my mother, then Ivan and I parted ways, and I came back to Paracambi - not actually Rio (the capital), but close.

Arrived in Rio at lunch time, after a brief stopover in Sao Paulo. After looking at a baggage carousel for 30mins, we realised our bags weren't coming - turned out they'd been left in London!

The most spectacular waterfalls I've ever seen were in Puerto Iguazu, Aregtina and Foz de Iguazu, Brazil's side. Then I made my way to Rio de Janeiro for Carnival and it was definitely one of the most craziest experiences of my life. I stayed in Copacabana at the Stone of a Beach Hostel that has a bar/pool on the roof...it's great! I had an amzing time out there and I would definitely recommend it. The only thing you have to be very careful about is pick-pocketers, they are everywhere! :(

Daar bleek echter snel dat winter in rio niet zozeer een koude temperatuur tot gevolg heeft, maar wel een snel dalende zon.Zaterdag trokken onze vromen n…

ms. mascia... program coordinator
posted by:
Jul 11, 2006 - Jul 13, 2006
Ahh, if I was the program coordinator. What would I do? What would I change? Buenos Aires was great. I think it was really important to stay in one place for a long time so that the whole trip doesn’t feel like you are constantly on the move. It was good to feel grounded somewhere. But there were so many amazing things in the rest of the Argentina, that the students should definitely be pushed out of the city to see the rest. It would be great to be able to really talk about the comp…
