Like I said we rented a great penthouse in the cool settings of ipanema , and Irish luck should have it ,at the end of our block was a fantastic Irish bar simply named The Irish Bar. We used this bar quite often during our stay, and I have reccommended it. We found it much better to rent an apartment rather than staying in small hotel room ,possibly for a similar price. The beauty about an apartment is that you can come and go as you please ,have much more independence and ca…

Day 1 : Arrival
Arrived in Rio @ 8 am (12 pm Irish time). 18 hours traveling, the only delay was a 20 minute one out of Cork! Due to severe jet lag we only managed a stroll along the beach in Copacabana this afternoon. Got splashed by some waves!
Day 2 : Favela Tour
Did a Favela tour today to Rocinha with the Be A Local company. Had a few close escapes on the motorcycles on the way up there...they have their own rules out here!!! Twas pretty amazing that 300,000 people fit into such a…

Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay..... it is difficult to decide!! Every single country is beauty, but some are easier to travel around if infraestructure, communications, facilities and staff are up to expectations.
Sometimes travelling has some difficulties.... but for those easygoing and independent oriented tourists any inconvenient has an adventure and challenging side!!
South America is the right place to go!! Awesome nature, historical cities, warm people and safer than ever.

Last stop Rio. 4 days so could slow things down a bit ......Great hotel and location right on Copacabana beach front. Love the beach with the hills and Sugar Loaf in the background. Also love the kiosks which do many a great cairpirinha.
Much warning of robbery and everyone tells us not to carry anything of value and minimum cash. Janice tells us of a coach being held at gunpoint - we are in bandit country. We are robbed of our underwear but it is just a mix up at the laundry.
Find a great …

Spent 5 days in Rio de Janeiro, went to the local forest, the old imperial capital Petropolis and then spent three days at Iguassu Falls on the border of Brazil and Argentina and Paraguay. Pics are my wife (pregnant with Claire at the time) and me.

Myself and Kate checked into Rio Hostel in the Santa Teresa area of Rio. The hostel itself was pretty good, offering a free breakfast, internet and a charming layout. The area was one of the more bohemian areas in Rio with random graffitti, cobbled streets and a street tram that runs through the area and into central. Santa Teresa has plenty of quint restaurants and interesting bars in which to sample the local food and drink. Catching the tram through Santa Teresa to Central was great f…

Sadly it was my second last night in Rio after 6 wonderful weeks in Brazil. My friends and I were at the Garotta de Ipanema, this is where Jobin and Gilberto wrote the fabulous song, Sudzi, Dave Wylie and I had a fantastic night with a crazy party going on all around us. We met some wonderful happy people, there is no doubt about brazilians, they really know how to party.
This blog is to show you some of the wonderful faces that jumped in front of my camera on one special night in Rio.

Poor folks don’t seem to get much respect over here, but they sure have the best views. To learn why, you have to go to the famous shantytowns, called favelas. We decided to make this trip, despite advice from friend who had visited Brazil and also from Riva, a Brazilian himself. You will be surprise to learn that many Brazilians consider favelas a no-go zone and most have not been inside a favela before. There are estimated to have 750 favelas and spread around the middle and upper-class n…
