After a hard day (especially the night) I needed the wake up call really badly in order to wake up. I stood up and my head wasn’t killing me, but wasn’t all right either. I was smart and before going to bed I left all my clothes ready for the next day and almost packed everything, because we were leaving Rio that night. I took a really nice shower and it was the perfect solution. I felt alive again ;)
I called Blair, thinking he was already awake, but he was still sleeping. While he was ...

Cool and rainy day kept me from enjoying one final beach day in Rio. That is ok, because in a few days i will be in the Greek isles.
Took a bus to the airport from a street close to the hostel. This was actually kind of difficult, because the buses came at you pretty fast, and if you didnt wave them down, the bus would pass you by. Since the buses only came every 30 minutes for the airport, it was pretty important to catch the bus. I finally found one, and of course i...

Who is he?
He sits at the right hand of God, he can walk on water, he comes back from the dead and best of all he turns water into wine! If i could patent his last ability i would be a very rich man indeed. So the man of the moment has many other hidden talents to say the least the ones outlined here are just a standard week of activities for the big guy..... Any ideas?
He is Jesus Christ or when in Rio, Cristo the Redeemer!
As we have all been told im s...

You can forget the lighting up Sydney harbour with fireworks and dropping the ball in Times Square New York, when 2 million people wander down to Copacabana beach in Rio De Janeiro they set the benchmark for how to celebrate the end of one year and the start of the new one. An absolutely awesome sight, so many people in one place, along with 8 monster cruse ships anchored off the beach and here was I on the 12 floor of the Luxor Regente hotel taking in this wonderful experience. I hope...

WHERE MUSIC AND PASSION ARE ALWAYS IN FASHION
I arrived in Rio at Noon which gave me about 11 more hours to kill in Brasil. Where to? Copacabana, of course. I had hoped to meet up with couchsurfers Antonio or Cecilia, but that did not work out. I never did get my cell phone working there. As it turned out, it was a nice day to just kick back on your backpack on the beach. I would say the air temperature was about mid 70s and there was a slightly warm breez...

Definitely my best day in Rio. With only one day left, I still had a lot of stuff I needed to see. I started in Ipanema Beach, one block from the hotel. It's world famous, and so much has already been written about it, there's no point in going on in a blog. Let's just say it looks exactly like you think it does. No surprises. What was a nice surprise was Flamengo beach, facing the harbor rather than the ocean. It's shape is a half moon, reminding me vaguel...

We all arrived separately, so it was a happy reunion with my friends on the 22nd floor of Building G, in the Morado do Sol condominium complex. I'm not sure what the big deal was, but no one could believe I had made it in high heels. I was just in time, because Beto and Luis, our neighbors, came over to collect our "rent" for the week. We were more than happy to fork over the cash; this apartment was gorgeous. Mike, the only guy in our group, had found it for us o...

KERRY - What can i say except Rio is the best! Sun, sand and surfing as well as caiparinias and beautiful people. Rio has it all and is the most stunning city I have ever been to.
I was pretty nervous about coming here though, as a lot of people along the way had told us to be careful when we go there, but thank god, we didn´t experience any of that. We spent our first 4 nights in a hostel called Casa 6 on a little road full of other hostels in Ipanema, while our other friends were in ...

So we didn't end up staying in buzios. Ben and i got trashed our one night there, and just hung out in this bar talking philosophy, which was fun. The enxt day was really jsut a day of traveling, going back to rio. The next day, tues, Ben and I went hanggliding in Tijuca national forest. that was SICK. hanggliding over rio was definitely not in the original plan, but it was totally worth it. The wind on tues wasn't great, so there was a long line to jump, and we had to wait for like 3 hours. ...

I went on a tour of Rocinha in Rio de Janeiro. Rocinha is the biggest “favela” in all of Latin America. Favela is the Brazilian term for a shanty town or ghetto. The reported population of the neighborhood is in between 200,000 to 300,000. This is not the favela from the movie City of God, however part of it is used for the documentary entitled News from a Personal War. First I felt strange going on the tour…generally tourists should not be viewing a poor n...
