Rio Botanical Gardens Aug 10, 2011
The Rio Botanical Gardens aka Jardim Botanico is a great attraction to check out while visiting Rio de Janeiro.

The Rio Botanical Gardens is huge at almost 350 acres and contains over 6000 species of plants and trees. You can also catch a variety of animals roaming around freely in the gardens including monkeys and several species of birds & reptiles. I have to admit I’m not really a botanical gardens type of guy, but Jardim Botanico was pretty impressive. So even if you’re not a tree hugger I guarantee that you will still enjoy the beauty and nature there :)

Jardim Botanico is pretty easy to get to from Copacabana or Ipanema just take the the 571, 572, 594 or any bus marked Jardim Botanico.

The admission charge is pretty cheap too, it was only R$5.

Well said! The Jardim is one of my favorite spots-you can see some beautiful birds and butterflies-last time I saw a small marmoset monkey!
there is a small restarant there, but the food is only average. Also, if you don't mind walking about a mile, you can visit the Floresta di Tijuca (and cool off in the waterfalls).

Botanical Gardens Jardim Botânico Jan 24, 2010
"I find myself walking alone on a sunny day. Seeing tropical plants and trees as my mind wonders with no care in the world......"

A rather peaceful place to walk around or with a friend. As I do not live any where tropical, I found it rather relaxing. I spent hours walking around on a nice hot day. Many areas to explore, just be sure not to walk of the gate, or you will have to pay again. I took at Taxi from Ipanema beach with no issues.
I am there...

Botanical Garden (Jardim Botânico) Nov 16, 2009
Rio is not only blessed by wild vegetation, but also by a stunning planted garden. It holds over 8,000 species, including century old imperial palm trees, Amazon plants and fruit trees. In 1808, when the Portuguese royal family arrived in Brazil, King João VI created this garden to receive plants from all over the world. The park is the kind of place you’ll want to spend quality time relaxing. No rush. Sit down at the outdoors small coffee shop or walk around listening to the sounds of nature. There are 138 species of birds catalogued by biologists. Monkeys, squirrels, lizards and a great variety of butter-flies are also constant visitors. Besides the 137 acres park, ponds and bucolic paths, don’t miss the Green Houses with amazing nature- sculpted Bromeliads and Orchids! The Botanical Garden was where Tom Jobim found inspiration for many of his songs.
