nice small river valley, some free camping Oct 11, 2014
From Taos to Mora New Mexico (SE) is NM 518. A few maps call it NM 3 so pay attention when you drive. Leave Taos uphill and enter the Carson Nat. Forest and stop at a good pulloff at US Hill for a good view. Then go downhill and when you pass a right NM 75 you are now in the nice Rio Peublo valley with free and pay camping along the river with no services.

The vally has a nice connifer forest with semi large cliffs looking upward. In the late spring the meadows can be covered with flowers. As you get near the top of the valley the river turns into a tiny meandering creek then disappears completely into private property.
