Expensive but good churrascaria experience in Leblon Jan 15, 2010
This place isn't cheap. Although I don't remember the exact price, I recall it being comparable to a Las Vegas buffet, approximately $30-$40 per person. It's located in Leblon, right across the street from "Shopping Leblon", a large mall. Despite the cost, it seemed to be fairly popular with locals and businesspeople on lunch meetings.
Once you are seated, different waiters will come by with giant hunks of meat on skewers the size of swords. You have small red/green piece of paper next to your plate. If the green side is up, waiters will stop by with their bountiful offerings. If the red side is up, waiters will skip your table, unless they think you are a confused tourist who doesn't understand the system, in which case they will stop by every 2 minutes with a pleading look on their face, regardless of whether the red side is up, and look offended when you tell them no. All of the meat dishes I tried were seasoned simply but incredibly delicious.
There is also a buffet where you can get seafood, grains, and vegetables. The selection is somewhat limited, but most of the food at the buffet was also of high quality.
Overall, Barra Brasa offered good food, good service, at expensive prices. If you're very, very hungry, you might be able to eat your money's worth. Otherwise, there are probably cheaper churrascaria's that will suit your appetite (and you wallet) just as well!

Delicious Churrasqueria in Rio Mar 28, 2008
Well, I should say this place is expensive, but the whole city is pricy, so...
Churrasqueria? Sushi? Vegetarian? Barra Brasa is difficult to categorize since it has everything. First of all it's famous because of the churrasqueria. The meats that circulate through the large dining area on gigantic skewers are delicious and there are so many different cuts of beef, lamb, chicken and sausage - including the best argentinian beef . Side dishes include fried plantains, rice, potatoes and farofa (Brazilian beans).
On the other hand, this place could be great for vegetarians because it has an enormous salad bar. It includes all the usual salad fixings plus herrings, quail eggs, smoked salmon, shrimp and marinated vegetables.
You can fill up as many times as you wish. A sushi selection is part of the salad bar, while oysters on the half-shell and other shellfish are served at the table.
As I said before, the price is not cheap, but the food is so good that is a real delight to eat there. I was forgetting about the lobster, huge shrimps and caviar they offer too. Anyway, this place is worthy going. There are 2 Barra Brasa's. One located in Barra and one in Leblon. I went to Leblon's one which is located right in front of the most recently built and elegant Shopping Leblon.
The staff is really friendly and they also offer free transfer from and to your hotel.
