Rio Apartments Algarve Reviews
Sep 16, 2007
After spending my first 'sun' holiday away for many years in the summer of 2005 int he Algarve, I would have to say the accommodation we stayed in was more than adequate for our needs. It is very cheap, and if booked online in advance with an advance Monarch flight, it can work out at less than £300 per person for 2 weeks. We found it that ideal for our needs we went back not once in 2006, but twice, 2007 also.
The accommodation has a nice clean pool, friendly staff and a decent bar/resteraunt. As long as you do not have amazingly high expectations, but want somewhere to stay free of cockroaches and mosquitoes this is a very nice place.
Do not be fooled by online quotes of 15 minutes to the beach. The beach is at least 30-40 minutes brisk walk, and the 'noddy' train is sparse at best. Taxi's are cheap but if you are like us - happy go lucky - walking to the beach in amazing sunshine each day is no chore.
There is a supermarket that caters for all your nees less than 5 inutes walk away and a phone box 2 minutes walk away. The rooms are basic, with only Portuguese TV on offer, but hey, who spends time in their room when on holiday? Every room is complete with a balcony - ask for a pool side view on arrival! - but also be aware there is no air conditioning in the rooms, so buy a fan from a local supermarket on arrival, £12 max.
All in all, this is a great place to stay on a budget. Be sure to hire a car and visit every place you can in the Algarve, with the 2 day trips to Seville/Gibraltar and Lisbon/Fatima both a must. Use your car wisely to visit the far reaches of the Algarve and take boat trips across the river into Spain. Do not stick to your tour operators trips, as these will bore you - you may as well go to Brighton!
Rio apartments - decent cheap place to stay, don't expect the Ritz, it is basic with a nice pool and bar, but away from amenities. It is 30 minutes from Faro airport and situated in Villamoura - mid-point of the Algarve so every place is within reach. Hire a car and visit all you can.
This is a budget holiday (if all booked online - Monarch flight ~ £50 pp return, Rio ~ £150 for 2 weeks pp and an Avis hire car ~ £100 for 7 days, pick up Faro arport, drop of in Vilamoura, or 2 weeks at ~ £170, pick up and drop off at Faro airport).
