The City of Ringgold was incorporated in 1847. There is a lot of history to Ringgold. Ringgold was named after Major Ringgold, who was the first officer killed during the Mexican War. Ringgold is still a relatively small town, with a population of about 3000 residents. Ringgold is where the locomotive General stopped during the great locomotive chase on April 12, 1862. With a lot of Civil War history, there are several places to see pertaining to the Civil War. There are many building that are original from the 1800's and many of the new building are built in the colonial style. There are several places to enjoy nature walks and there is a wide variety of restaurants from locally owned to franchises like BK or KFC. Ringgold is a nice quiet place to stay and close enough to Chattanooga, TN to make day trips from here.
