Cheap hotel with good connections in Paris Jul 30, 2010
We were traveling around Europe in a group of four in July 2010 and in Paris we stayed in Hotel Richard for two nights. Hotel Richard is more like a hostel than a hotel, they have shared showers and toilets that were pretty dirty and uncomfortable. The room and bed were also dirty and they they charged you for bed sheets that we didnt end up taking. But for us it did the job well as it was pretty cheap, around 20e per person per night. They did have a free wifi that was good but you had to use it at the lobby because the signal didnt reach our room. The hotel is located near the Voltaire underground so its easy to ger anywhere in Paris but you cant really reach the attraction by foot except the Pere Lachaise semetery that is pretty close. Near the Voltaire underground there are a few market where you can buy food and beer and there is a McDonalds also near. Overall experience was average and I would recommend it for young people who seek for a cheap hotel with good connections in Paris but dont have any other demands towards the hotel.

Ok but some false advertising Oct 23, 2008
The hostel advertises that it has a business center with free internet. This is a lie. There is no center of any description, not even a common room and the internet is a kiosk in the reception and it is very very expensive. There are internet cafes up the road a bit at a fraction of the price.

5 floors of steep stairs be warned! You will be fit after this place!

Having said that..the rooms are adequate. They are clean but very bare. The tiles are heated but the room we had, had to working central heating so two broken heaters were provided and only one of them worked.

There was one bed, a cupboard and a sink (Broken plug). The bed was comfortable the room was roomy and light. It had a great view from my floor (The 5th) of the other roof tops.

Some reception staff where very unfriendly and almost hostile. The others in the day were ok. The doors are heavy and so it is IMPOSSIBLE to close them without waking the neighbours. All rooms are private.

The toilets are between floors and are very very tiny. They can get smelly as they are in the stairwell and the smell travels up to all floors.

The 4th floor shower was OK, but the head was broken so you have to hold it. The room was not ventilated properly and I pitty the poor person who gets the room opposite the shower. The steam went into this room.

I would stay there again, but I hope they change the ad about the business center.

Cook facilites...um...one tiny microwave that is it. No fridges nothing. Go to the cafes up the road.

Very close to the metro station and the major Parisian attractions. Get off at Voltaire metro station
