Riad Zitoune Marrakech Reviews
Riad zitoune- no frills but superb location and price Jun 09, 2011
It all depends essentially on what standards you're looking for. If you're on a tight budget, this is the place for you. Situated 5-10 minutes walk East of Djeema El Fna square, you are right in the heart of the Medina.
The hostel is situated among the various alleys of the " main road" - its not a road, more of a narrow walkway also used for motorbikes - running East/South East from the square. Again i highly recommend you ask someone to show you the way from the square the first time. Being in such an odd location, the place also gets full marks for authenticity, it may be nerve racking for some people but for most it is absolutely fascinating.
Anyway down to business:
-The owners are extremely helpful and friendly
-We paid (June 2010) £6.60 per night.
-Rooms are split up into Male only and Female only, between 5 and 10 beds in each room.
-There are about 6 dorms there, when we went it wasn't too busy and this is a popular time for travelers.
- I recall about 4 showers and as many toilets (mixed sex).
-Toilets and showers were clean, but the showers were in poor quality and you would be very lucky to get any hot water.
- There's a nice living area with chairs, guides, a t.v. etc.
- The hostel was advertised with WiFi, however we didn't get round to trying to use it.
- You will be given a key for your dorm room, i'm not too sure what you do if you're are sharing with others, however the place was very secure and i'm positive the owner would be happy to look after your belongings if security is a concern.
-The beds were average, but comfortable enough to sleep on, in my group the girls were put in rooms with proper spring beds, ours weren't quite so comfy. And in terms of bedding you'll get a hard pillow and a coarse blanket, so i'd recommend a sleeping bag liner.
-Something to note, the owners are strict muslims and do not allow alcohol consumption in the hostel, however you'll be lucky to find any this side of town.
-One final point - I beleive the owners were still having work done whilst we were there, therefore the facilities may have improved since I visited.
All in all, it's very basic, but its pleasant and in an incredibly authentic area right in the heart of Marrakesh. I would definitely use it again.
