Serenity in Marrakech Jan 24, 2015
Riad Layla Rouge is a piece of serenity within the medina walls only minutes away from Jemaa El Fna, the famous square. When arriving at the airport, I secured a taxi for around 10€...from what I've heard I overpaid and so had many others I talked with. Certain times prohibit taxis from actually driving within the square so you will have to walk to the Riad. General directions, look for Cafe Argana, take a left and follow it to the Pharmacy where you will continue left. Once you reach the fork in the road, you will make another left through a couple archways and then make a quick right, a sign is posted Layla Rouge entrance 23.

Sayeed, one of the managers, greeted me warmly with some mint tea. I didn't have a reservation but that wasn't a problem. I stayed in an 8-person dorm which was rather large and they supplied multiple blankets and towels during our stay. I went during December so it got pretty chilly during the night. Being a Riad, it's an open air facility in the center of the building so it's important for the people staying in the dorms to keep the door closed and the heat on. The dorm was cleaned daily with fresh linens and the bathroom was maintained as well.

Breakfast was filling. Every morning I was given a few crepes, some eggs, bread, tea and juice. The hostel also sets up any tours you may like to do like going to Essauoira or doing a camel trek into the Sahara. The front door is locked so you must ring the bell to be let in, don't worry though Sayeed and other workers are there to let you in 24/7. For a little peace and quiet, you can also take a walk up top to the terrace and basque in the sights and sounds that is Marrakech. What a great panorama of the city and mountains.
