Riad Hala Hotel Fez

Do Not, I repeat, DO NOT make an attempt to find this place by yourself. Please have the Riad send a taxi for you, pay the 50 dh for the cab ride, and make arrangements to meet Tizi at the "Blue Gate" to guide you in. Trust me, you would NEVER EVER find it unless you speak/read fluent Arabic. Place looks just as pictures show, with free breakfast (juice, coffee, breads,jams) in the morning, and decently comfortable bed, modern heating/AC unit. Bath tub needs a shower curtain, as shower nozzle is situated in a funny spot & wets entire floor. Walking into the riad is like finding a diamond in the middle of lumps of coal, completely unexpected. Tizi, the manager, seems a bit "put out" to be asked questions, but maybe that's just his demeanor. The 2 young ladies who clean and serve breakfast are very pleasant and I beleive they speak Arabic, French, English, and Spanish!
Go to Cafe Clock to have your first meal, to break you into Moroccoan cuisine slowly. I believe Cafe Clock is run by a British ex-pat (?),and it's located only steps away. The Camel burger is suprisingly great, as is the live music Sunday nights.
The price we were quoted at the Riad (50 Euro a night) turned out NOT to include the local tax and fees per person per night, so expect to pay more than quoted. Also, there is an additional 5% charge to pay by credit card, so plan to pay in Dirhams. Overall, would recommend!
