Rheinfall Neuhausen am Rheinfall Reviews
The divine Rhine falls Feb 10, 2017
The Rhine Falls (German: Rheinfall) is the largest plain waterfall in Europe. The falls are located on the Upper Rhine between the municipalities of Neuhausen am Rheinfall and Laufen-Uhwiesen, between the cantons of Schaffhausen and Zürich.
Some useful information: waterfalls are 150 m (450 ft) wide and 23 m (75 ft) high. In the winter months, the average water flow is 250 m3 per second. In the summer the average water flow is 700 m3 per second. The highest flow ever measured was 1,250 m3 per second in 1965; and the lowest, 95 m3 per second in 1921. This natural attraction is visited trough centuries but in the Federal Inventory of Landscape and Natural Monuments of National Importance is since 1983.
Today is major tourist attraction in northern Switzerland, near the town of Schaffhausen. Every year, more than 1 million visitors enjoy in this magnificent natural spectacle.
I dint knew much about it before the visit. I have a lucky because I been there on Sunday in July without single cloud on sky and not so much crowded.
From the top of the hill from Schloss Laufen I take the steps down to view the river closer. Secured pats (25 meters long) goes through the rock arches divided the narrow path in several segment. Even is not long path till lower platform it is created several viewing platforms above the water with seating places. And here it is – a beautiful natural gem below. The water power created a white mass in the center. Below the Känzeli platform (biggest on the cliff) is another rock arch and great view at the base of waterfall and the island or rock in the middle of it.
The famous rock has a natural whole look like an arch over the water in the middle of waterfall splitting them up into segments. I think is a good idea to use this rock formation in the commercial purpose. There is a boat dock and stairs up to a tight lookout to support visitation via boat tour. Tourists might stand under a Swiss national flag on a rock in between the Rhine Falls and two cantons: Zurich on the left (there is a Schloss Laufen) and Schaffhausen with little charming town call Neuhausen.
I have a lucky to stay dry hole the time (not go on the boat tour) and weather was excellent. Excellent day trip!
Directions: Northern Switzerland, on the Upper Rhine between the municipalities of Neuhausen am Rheinfall and Laufen-Uhwiesen, between the cantons of Schaffhausen and Zürich. It is near to Schaffhausen and about 20 km west of Lake Constance and 40 km east of Waldshut.

Since the beginning of the 19th century there were two dams located just above the falls.
Schloss Laufen is located on prompted cliff whose position guaranteed a spectacular view over cascading waters and it is an uppermost viewing area. Ascendants steeps and narrow stairs call Bellvedere trail from a castle allow the visitors to reach at the same Rhine on the base of waterfall. On middle viewing platform it provides two funny looking telescopes for close-up viewing of falls and it cost a 1 Swiss Franc more.

You could go so close to the waterfall that you could even touch it the water. In summer it is common to jump six meters below the «Känzeli» to the Rhine.
On many walking points through the park you can find interpretative maps and many interesting (and informative) detailed. They are usually bilingual (German and English) but some are in Chinese. SCHLOSSLI WORTH Feb 11, 2017
This is the castle on the other side of the Rhine River. It's a bit more distant to the falls than the Schloss Laufen, but at least the views on this side of the river are free. There's a cafe and restaurant at this "castle" with terrace that offers more direct view of the falls. A well-established walk between this castle and the viewpoints just upstream of the falls opposite Schloss Laufen yield plenty of opportunities to photograph the falls from many angles you can image. Have fun with it!
I found out that is need reservations at the restaurant, even on a Monday night. The ambiance of the restaurant is very good, large glass windows looking out at the river and waterfall. It is a expensive but worth to see. Special offer (beside fantastic view) is a boat trip to the rock in the middle of the waterfall for a special brunch.
There's a little exhibit where a cylinder of water resists a propeller attached to a crank that you turn. The point is that you can measure how much energy you generate since the crank also lights up some bulbs indicating how much power you've generated up to 80W. And while this is going on, you can see a little vortex in the cylinder of water if you turn the crank fast enough.
A charming footpath takes you from the parking lot to the Schaffhausen-Winterthur railroad line and from here a short few minutes by foot to Schloss Laufen. Another short walk will take you right up to the Rhine River.
Due to the stagnation of the plunge pool on this side of the Rhine, it can get a little smelly. That's an indication that the water is probably polluted. The mighty Rhine in this place hidden some undertows and whirlpools that all making swimming unsafe anyways.
Biggest waterfall in Europe Sep 20, 2015
Schaffhausen is known for having 2 things (1) Rheinfalls (2) Old Town
The Rheinfalls is the largest fall in Europe with a record flowing 1'250'000 litres per second in 1965. And a normal Summer period record of 600'000 litres per second. Depth of 13 metres. Imagine that?
Reachable by train daily (station: Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall or Neuhausen) or Bus No. 1 from Schaffhausen HBF (main station). Hourly train ride from Zurich will be approx. 40 mins and 45 mins from Zurich airport, this place would qualify as a day trip or a 1 night stay.
You will be amazed by the strong gush of water this Rheinfall produce. As a local, I see loads of tourists come to be awed by this fall every day (excluding the cold winter months of course).
There are also huge tourist crowds from India, I do not know if the Rheinfalls is part of the Bollywood tour of Switzerland which is a tour customised to show Bollywood movie buffs, the scene locations in Bollywood moview. I think the reason could be because this was the site of a 1960s Bollywood Movie – An Evening in Paris. Whilst most of the movie was shot in Paris, there was a scene which was supposedly Niagara Falls in the movie, however I think movie budgets in the 60s are not as big as these days therefore the scene was shot at the Rheinfalls. I have watched this movie as a child with my grandparents and having visited the Rheinfalls and re-watching this movie recently made me realise – OMG! The Niagara Falls in the movie was actually the Rheinfalls (with the Swiss Flag on the Rock!). Ok camera tricks those days aren’t so advance! So this could be the reason for the loads of Indian tourists daily.
Besides walking along the Rheinfalls, you can also take a boat ride around the Rheinfall or take a boat ride to get to the Rock which is a rock structure in the middle of the Rheinfalls. Tickets from Schlossli Worth to the Rock costs CHF8 per person. You get a boat ride to the Rock. You climb up the steps to get all the way to the top where the Swiss flag is. It is an amazing experience that you are in the center of all this water, splashing and gushing against the Rock! Be prepared to get a little wet too when you take the boat ride. Thereafter, wait for the next boat to bring you back to shore!
On special dates such as the night before (31 Jul) the Swiss National Day which 1 Aug, there will be light show at the Rheinfalls at night until 9 pm. For New Year’s eve there will be fireworks display at the Rheinfalls.
There are cafés, 2 nice restaurants at the Schloss (be prepared to pay the price), souvenir shops and playground for children. Do note that there are 2 sides to the Rheinfalls so be prepared to walk up and down hill if you want to have the complete experience. So when in Zurich area, do remember to check out the Rheinfalls!

Rheinfall / Rhine Falls Aug 06, 2014
Nature at her best, near Shaffhausen in the north of Switzerland is Europe's largest waterfall, wide 150 meters and high 23 meters. If you follow the river rhein for a bit you wouldn't expect the water to be so violent so suddenly, at least i didn't! If you just want a view of the waterfall there is no entrance fee. But you can also do a guided tour or boattrip, the website offers a lot of options to see the waterfall and things to see and do nearby like the restaurant with a beautifull view of the waterfall at castle Worth or the adventure park, and the Rhine Falls illuminations at night
