Rügen Overview

Rügen is Germany's biggest island, located in the far north-east of the country. Surrounded by the waters of the Baltic Sea, Rügen is a natural paradise with lots of sandy beaches, quiet landscapes to discover on foot or by bike, some lovely fishing villages and much more. So far, Rügen is still an undiscovered gem for international visitors - most tourists are Germans, and out of these most are from east Germany. This is because of Rügen's past as the number one holiday destination for many people of the GDR - an old flame never dies... Rügen's most beautiful sights include the traditional seaside town of Binz, the numerous beaches such as the Schmale Heide, the Mönchgut region in the easternmost part of the island with its lovely landscapes, and the lighthouse at Kap Arkona. Many visitors to Rügen combine their stay with a day on the neighbouring island Hiddensee and the spectacularly beautiful hansa city of Stralsund.
