Several people had recommended to us to save the Blue Lagoon for the day of our flight.  I was hesitant to due this at first, but I am delighted that I ended up following their advice.  And you should strongly consider following it as well if you are traveling to Iceland.  Visiting the Blue Lagoon is an absolute must!  We planned this through Reykjavik Excursions as well.  They will pick you up at your place of residence, drop you off at the Blue Lagoo...

The most popular tour on Iceland... 8 hours by bus, unfortunately a terrible weather - rainy and windy like I've never experienced before! Many beautiful places, among them: Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir hot spring area, Kerið volcanic crater and the Þingvellir National Park (where the Great Atlantic rift is clearly visible - a rift which is slowly pulling Iceland apart along tectonic plates). A very interesting day... just sad about all the rain - boring photo weather!

Ignorance and Bliss

“Mount Esja ........... You are going to walk it?” asked the bus driver, when I enquired if he could inform me when the bus reached the base of the mountain. When I affirmed my intention to do just this, he replied “You’re mad!” When I had woken up this morning it was a dreary day, grey, with constant drizzle driven by a gusting wind. It wasn’t the kind of day I had been hoping for on my little stroll up Mount Esja! However I decided to get ready and head into town for so...

My trip in Iceland!

Goodbye Iceland:   The next morning we woke up and thought: “Wow! This is actually our last day in Iceland!” Our flight was leaving at 1pm. We packed our last baggage.  This was a very strange day; we were leaving Iceland and we were not going to see each other all the time!   We were very few peoples on the flight, so we had fun - laughed all the time!   We also had so much fun at the bus on our way to Tórshavn! :D All of us were so happy - we had had an a...

To visit Iceland there are many good excursions by bus from Reykjavik, a little bit expensive I think but almost everything is expensive there (first of all eating...).I had no time to go to Jökulsarlon to see the iceberg falling down in the ocean but it must be wonderful. To go there you can find excusions on tuesday and sunday.I travelled for the Reykjanes peninsula by car and maybe it could be a good idea (maybe still better than the bus excursion) if you want to see the Geyser and t...

(quick note, this is actually the night of the 24th, but I didn't want it posted right after my morning blog...)After getting back to the hotel, M and I got ready for our last night together in Iceland.  Ok, we totally lagged.  M called concierge to have them find us a great place to eat and make reservations.  It was pretty late, I think around 10 and we told them we would be where ever in 30 minutes.  Or maybe that's what we were told when they told us where the restaura...

Exploring the city
posted by:
Nov 22, 2007 - Nov 26, 2007
Today we had another day to explore the city. We went to the Saga Museum and Perlan. Which was defiantly worth the short trip out side the immediate city center. Since it sits up higher on a hill there is a nice view.   We then went to the Kolaportið Flea market, which is indoors, nice because it is out of the cold. I dint find much to buy here but some oddities like old records, clothes, and Asian statues. They did have a great fish market with lots a salmon and fermented shark. &...

or is it beyond, over the edge, somewhere else entirely...   i think, if mankind were to settle another planet tomorrow, within a few years, the end product was bear a striking resemblance to reykjavik, surrounded by bizarre volcanic rock formations and seas turgid with the relics of ancient seasonal ice shelves.   the closer my plane flew to iceland, the weaker the light became, and the cloud formations, now far different from any i have seen before, took on pastel hues. emerg...

When we arrived at Rekjavik airport, we were a little disturbed to find out that it wasn't actually in the city at all. A short coach journey later (well, it could have been a long coach journey but I fell asleep, so it seemed pretty quick to me), we arrived. Travel rumpled, completely disorientated but with all our luggage and most of our faculties. What struck me about Reykjavik was how nice the city was, it always seemed clean, the building were an interesting architectural mix, the graff...

My "Last day" in Reykjavik: (before departure day) Woke up late and it was raining so goodbye whale watching experience, it will be on my list for my next visit to Iceland. I had to have a quick breakfast because I had to move the car before 10 or I could get a ticket. So it took me a while to find a free parking spot, but I found one in front of a house on the same street of the Russian Embassy and close to a church. Here's a list of the places I visited in downtown Reykjavik: Christ...

Well, I´ve never been deposited in such an alien landscape. Flying over glaciers and rivers was  amazing. So much panorama to look at. Reyjakvik is nice so far, about to explore today.Iceland is fascinating. Wish I’d spent four weeks here, instead of doing some of the other countries in Europe. The geology is amazing - the country is growing by 2cm every year, as it’s a centre of the American and European tectonic plates. It also has a very rich history and mythology, sometimes o...
