Restaurante VentaMoncalvillo Daroca de Rioja Reviews
Best gourmet restaurant in La Rioja Dec 26, 2010
If you are organizing a dinner for somebody special or just for a business event, this review might help you find THE place. This restaurant is located in a tiny town in La Rioja. Actually there is not much besides this restaurant and a beautiful rural house by the name of "Mirador de Moncalvillo".
We organized our Christmas dinner for our company in this restaurant and I must say it has been the greatest decision we could make. They even closed the restaurant for us and only two people served us, the chef and the sommelier, who happens to be the owner of the place. This restaurant has been recently awarded with a star in the Michelin Guide.
The Michelin Guide has been around since the early 1900s and started as a car and road trip guide. André and Édouard Michelin wanted to create a guide to the best restaurants and accommodations available along the travel route of motorists. The guide quickly became incredibly popular for its restaurant information as it highlighted the most exceptional chefs and eateries. It is now the oldest such publication and is now considered the most well-known and influential guide in the culinary world. Many anxiously await its yearly publication, whether culinary aficionados or industry insiders.
Dinner was just superb. Actually they organized a food and wine marriage, which is something quite common in a good restaurant in La Rioja. We ended up having 4 different kinds of wine, everyone matching a different dish. The best thing is how the chef comes to you and explains every dish, which took him 3-4 minutes each. Actually they even said that they want to become a member of the "slow movement", so they recommended us to take our time tasting every single piece of food! :)
Once we finished dinner they took us to the "cigar" room, which is a private lounge where you can taste the best cigars and alcoholic drinks. Right in the middle of the room you find a clock showing the same time at all times. When we entered the room they said..."and don´t worry about the time, the clock will always tell you it is 8.20pm... no rush! :)"... so you kind of lose track on time!
Dinner was just amazing. I believe we had 4 or 5 dishes overall plus dessert! and everything, including drinks, ended up being 55 euros each! something amazing considering it is a restaurant included in the Micheling Guide.
I recommend you to stay overnight at a rural house 3 minutes away by foot named "Mirador de Moncalvillo".
