Restaurante Maria Mata Mouro Salvador da Bahia Reviews
Nice restaurant in Salvador Dec 28, 2014
This restaurant was recommended by the hotel we were staying. It is located in Pelourinho (Salvador's historical centre) which is a very nice and charming place by day however it might appear a bit rough by night.
They serve a good mixture of local bahian cusinine (moqueica) and international food. I'd recommend the moqueica (they do it for one person though the menu says minimum two persons) and the fillet mignon with caramelised figs. Also tried the grouper one night and albeit not impressive it is a good choice. The prices are maybe a bit higher than other restaurants in Salvador but affordable nonetheless we were always around the 250 Reais bill with two main and a half bottle of wine (and one occasional dessert).
Do: try the dessert the waiter would recommend to you (sort of coconut biscuit).
Don't: accept the appetizers, they are not complimentary and they are quite pricey for bread and butter (something like 35 Reais for two). Also don't be put off by the pedestrian street which leads to the restaurant by night, there is a massive police presence in the area so you should be safe.
