Restaurante Huang Hu (and its neighbours)
Restaurante Huang Hu (and its neighbours) Reviews
Great value food; the neighbouring restaurants are good too! Oct 25, 2008The best value eating in Havana is possibly to be found on the corner of Calle San Nicolas and Calle Chuchillo. The Huang Hu (El Tigre Amarillo or Yellow Tiger) has great meals for the price of a sandwich in a more touristy place. Particularly good value is the Camarones Bucanero (CUC4). You get a big bowl of prawns cooked in a tomato-rum sauce with the tang of olives. The neighbouring Chinese restaurants are good too ... some of them feature lobsters on the menu while others secretly serve it (government restriction). Lobsters are certainly the best value food item in Cuba. It is only a tad more than chicken or pork while in our home country it is several times more than other meats. If you’re looking for ice-cream on the street ... prepare to be teased and then disappointed! Most of the Nestle ice-cream freezers are empty. Nestle certainly made a bad investment there! However, when you do find it well-stocked ... just grin and bear the high price and enjoy. Part of the 2008 Laos, Sumatra, US, Cuba & Yemen travel blog |
