Traditional Mexican Family Restaurant and Club Jul 10, 2015
I travel to Mexico City often on business. I believe the best restaurants in the world are in this great town and I've eaten in many of them. On my last trip, my friend brought me to Arroyo, which is a traditional family, open air restaurant. It is located on the outskirts of the city and therefore is not a touristy place. On Sunday afternoons this is the place to be. Families pour in from all over the city from the youngest baby to the eldest grandparent. This Sunday afternoon dinner is not a chew and screw affair. Most families will stay for hours on end, in no rush to plow through their meal, but will endure several slow rounds of drinks and appetizers, reveling in the time to spend socializing with close family. The wait staff is traditionally dressed and center stage features a large mariachi band and dancers in beautiful historic costumes. There is a bull fighting ring on site, however, they are held on Friday evenings but the coliseum is open and free for exploration. This is a great place to go with a large crowd to spend a leisurely Sunday afternoon over drinks and excellent food. Highly recommended.
