Restaurant Vandaag Utrecht Reviews
Restaurant Vandaag Jul 16, 2010
Restaurant Vandaag is a restaurant that is unique in the Netherlands. It has an "all you can eat" concept, which is not common here in Holland. Restaurant Vandaag (which means "today") tries to change this.
Vandaag is located in the Food Spot. This is a new building in "De Wetering", an industrial area outside of Utrecht. It is conveniently located right next to the highway A2. The Food Spot contains more restaurants. Vandaag is located on the first floor.
The restaurant does not waiter on tables. You have the opportunity to get everything you want yourself. There are food, drink and cutlery buffets, so you can never run out of something.
This restaurant serves a little bit of all. They have appetizers, salads, fish, meat, vegetables, pastas, desserts and more! The food buffets are filled with the most delicious ingredients, just take your plate, walk by the buffets and get what you think is nice. They also perform live cooking. The drink buffets contain water, sodas, tea and coffee. Alcoholic drinks are also available.
I am not a big eater, so I just ate small portions. I started with a small tomato salad with nice dressing. Later I had barbecue chicken with asparagus, sushi and shrimps, thin sole fillet and a baked potato. As dessert, I had some homemade ice cream and a few small pastries. It all tasted really good.
The interior of the restaurant is very modern and clean. There is space for about 500 people. The seating areas vary, from intimate booths to large tables for families.
The food buffets are easy to reach, big and tidy. The drink buffets were also clean and restocked frequently.
The price is pretty low. Because they have just opened, the price I paid (19.95 euros for two hours) was meant as an introduction. After the summer of '10, the price will be 29.95 euros. However, as non-alcoholic drinks are included in the price, I still believe the price is pretty low. Alcoholic drinks were 2 euros per glass.
In all, I believe this restaurant is really nice and I can definitely recommend it, mainly because it is so different from other restaurants in the Netherlands. The only thing the restaurant can improve is placing little cards on the food buffets, so you know what you are eating. I would say, if you're in the neighborhood, give it a try!
