Restaurant Maven Copenhagen Reviews
A cosy place on a cold day Nov 20, 2014
Restaurant Maven (Stomach) is a quite cozy little restaurant located at Nikolaj Plads (Nikolaj Square) in the center of Copenhagen not far from the main walking street Strøget. The restaurant is situated in an annex to the church and it has borrowed the old nickname for the Nikolaj Square. In the 19th Century Nikolaj Square was the home of the city’s butcher shops and thus referred to by the locals as ‘Maven’, literally meaning ‘the Stomach’. The restaurants owner has removed the bloody traces and aired the location, but the informal charm is still here. Near the entrance to the church, which by the way is an exhition area today you walk up the 8 steps to the entrance of the restaurant.
As it was a quite cold day I stepped into a dark room. The room was built as an area to catch the cold wind and I must say that it worked pretty well. The restaurant is quite small but still very cosy. I went there for a business dinner and we both agreed upon that it was nice place with good ambiance. It was a surprisingly quiet place with honest food and friendly service. We both enjoyed the meal.
