Restaurant MEKK - Modern Estonian Cuisine Tallinn Reviews
Fork it over Jun 22, 2016
The sparkling interior suggests this place is new (as I write this in June, 2016), and much more shines than the décor. We stopped in for lunch and though more expensive than a few runners-up we had considered, MEKK delivers value for your euro.
MEKK is an acronym for “modern Estonian cuisine” (Moodne Eesti Köök) and the menu displays a fabulous list of dining choices. I opted for their fish board, which featured a broad spectrum of aquatic critters (including salmon and trout) presented raw and accompanied by an assortment of mustards and sauces. Laura went for the daily special: potato salad with hot smoked salmon (the ‘hot’ meaning cooked, not spicy).
Both dishes were splendid and our sole disappointment was the complimentary bread, just a touch too salty for our taste. Due to the brilliant weather, we enjoyed their al fresco seating, but inside is quite classy and I have no doubt the elegance rises as dinnertime approaches (our service was five stars, which actually seemed a bit of a waste for a lunch crowd).
