Restaurant Le Vieux Bordeaux Reviews
Traditional but also imaginative, generous cuisine Dec 30, 2008
We had there a great Christmas lunch in the heart of the Vieux Bordeaux,a stone's throw from the great bell tower(la grosse cloche). The restaurant consisting in 3 dining rooms(one in a cellar, the other in baroque's style),the last, where we had lunch, is called the "Petit Salon" where its wall showcases samples of soil from the main, great vintage-producting vineyards in the Bordeaux region.
We enjoyed the imaginative and generous cuisine of Michel Bordage
with a special menu with a starter,2 main courses and dessert(80 euro
each ,quite expensive but a real good value for the price at Christmas lunch!).
We both enjoyed the local caviar produced here since 1920(Gironde caviar is rated just behind beluga, last cost:1800 euro for one kilo!) and the oyster produced by Gillardeau who farms oysters in Normandy and Ireland, but finishes and packs its 2000 tons of exquisite oysters a year near La Rochelle.
Gillardeau's oysters are fleshier, nuttier than many others.
