Stunning Norweign food Sep 22, 2009
This was a meal to go down as one of the all time greats. I had not expected Norway to deal very well with vegetarians, but the dinner set out by Restuarant Eik was stunning. Right from the start the melt-in-your-mouth herb bread and sweet German Riesling set the scene for four stunning courses where every mouthful would be a sensation. Each plate would only contain three or four bites, with a medley of dishes served with an appropriate wine. Small shot-glass sized serves of asparagus soup, divine salad, chocolate mousse and more - every bite was a sensation. The meat eaters seemed equally satisfied with their salmon-based dishes.
The menu is only in Norweigen, but it is a set course meal and the waitress speaks perfect English so it is not a problem. Given the quality I am note surprised this is a Michelin recommended restaurant - better still it is ranked as "Bib Gourmand" - great food at a decent price.
