Restaurant Aux Anciens Canadiens Travel Reviews

C'est DELICIEUX! Frankly speaking, you could not find a more authentic restaurant in Quebec city. The decor is superb, staff friendly, and the food...DEVINE. The Lac St Jean tourtière (see above review for details)is SO worth it! You'd hardly know it's actually game meat. Go for lunch though; it's the best deal. Dinner menu can be quite pricy. Every year we stop in Quebec city just to eat lunch here! Highly recommend making a reservation though....if not, don't be surprised you can't get a table even at three in the afternoon!

I wanted to try French Canadian food while in Quebec City so I had lunch at the Restaurant Aux Anciens Canadiens. I have to say--not bad.

The restaurant is located in Old Quebec City and housed in the oldest building in Quebec. The restaurant setting reminds me of a lodge. Their lunch menu is pretty cheap given what you get. For C$14.95, you get wine/beer, soup of the day, entree, and dessert. I had the Lac St-Jean meat pie made with wild meats (caribou and elk). I don't eat wild meat very often, but I was quite pleased with the meat pie. The meat was tender and the pie wasn't too rich. For dessert, I had the maple syrup pie with fresh cream. It was really sweet and I thought my teeth were going to fall out after the first bite. Still, I ate most of it. Quebec is the world's largest maple producer so I had to try anything maple in Quebec when I can.

I recommend the Restaurant Aux Anciens Canadiens for those interested in French Canadian food and wild meat.
