Rennes Overview

Rennes is the captital of Bretagne (Brittany) in France. The city has a large student population due to its two universities and a medical school along with numerous specialised schools. The nightlife tends to be in the cafés and bars which frequently offer entertainment in the form of traditional Breton music.

Although it's the tenth largest city in France, many people don't know about it. And that's a shame, because it has a lot to offer.

The old part of the city is a lovely place where every street and square, round every corner you are astonished by the architecture and beauty of the old medieval timbered houses and other buildings in the Gothic, renaissance or classicist style.

Rennes is also a very good base for trips to both the north and the south of this part of Brittany e.g. Fougères, Mont St. Michel, Saint-Malo, Saint-Briac in the north and Quiberon, Carnac (menhirs), Vannes, Auray in the south.
