Rendezvous BBQ Reviews
dry ribs, dry brisket, small servings, expensive prices Apr 18, 2008
Me and some of my friends traveled to memphis the past weekend very excited to get there and try some of the famous bar-b-que places.I had done my research for a couple of weeks to narrow it down the top(3)rendezvous,corky's, and interstate we had alot of problems finding interstate so we ended up eating at "rendezvous". As we walked down this scary slope of stairs to enter the alley-way building the aroma was wonderful and i was even more excited to be there. We were seated very quickly although the seating was a little tight and the chairs did not feel very sturdy the menu was located under the glass so it was kind of akward looking at it under the glass ,and was not sure if we should remove it did not want to break any type of rituals or anything(lol). Well the waitor came out to get drink orders ok great so he leaves and comes back with like 5 pitchers of soda we all looked at each other like ok menus under glass, 5 pitchers not 1 but 5 pitchers of soda on this little round table that he comes back by and fills up your cup as if you can't hello we still have the pitchers on the table mister...OK so i am still looking at the menu under the glass trying to figure out what to eat keep in mind i am from dallas and at our bar-b-que spots our menus are full of choices. This menu has ribs and brisket and thats basically it so i really did not have a choice but to choose one or the other. i had no idea what dry rib meant or "dry" meat period even though he did keep saying in the bottle with the white top is "mild" the bottle with the red top is "spicy". Finally we ordered several of us ordered ribs and some ordered brisket first off the food came out "fast" that was a plus but the food was sort of cold the portion small and the meat was dry with this type of seasoning spread across it
"what the heck" i thought to myself but i proceeded to grab the bottle with the white top to drizzle on my very very dry meat. We began to eat not very impressed at all with my brisket it was to dry i snatched a rib from my friend it was pretty good seeing that i am not a rib person i like sausages or hot links as we call them. The serving size could have possibly been a appetizer it was small small portions the half rack of ribs priced 14.00+ the brisket plate i ordered 12.00+ very expensive. The price was just to much for the serving size the sides are a very small cup of beans the spoon they give you for the beans is like a baby feeding spoon this is to trick your mind that the serving is bigger but it does not trick your appetite and also you get a very small cup of cole slaw that looked like cheese/corn/rice it was not even green it was yellow. I was like thank god i do not eat cole slaw. Well we finally finished eating and thought i am still hungry it was just not worth the money, time or effort on a scale of 1 to 10 i truly give it a 1 i will be visiting memphis again gladly but will never visit or speak of the famous alley-way babr-b-que spot "rendevous".I like everything big i am from Tx. where we get adult size servings they may need to lower those prices and give you more meat for your buck!!! i could have went to the grocery store and spent that $100.00 on meat to have a real bar-b-que tx. style. |

Pretty good Bar B Que ribs at Rendezvous BBQ in Memphis Mar 21, 2008
I saw a special on Bar b que on the food channel. It mentioned that if you were ever in Memphis you needed to go to the Rendezvous BBQ charbroiled ribs. I have to say that the 20 minute was well worth the wait. the restaurant is located behind 52 South Second in downtown Memphis.
You had to walk downstairs to get to the hostess and then back upstairs to wait. There is a bar you can get a drink or two. Once you sit down the easy to read menu is on the table. the waitor showed up pretty quickly and we ordered. We had a traditional Memphis appitizer of sausage, cheese, ham, and crackers. My friend Ken Burnam ans his wife Kelly and daughter Amanda came with me as they ahve not been there as well. All of us believed it was pretty good ribs although not the best that we ever had. the food was brought out quickly. This is one place that you can get brisket in TN. I would go back, but there are many BBQ places that I will go to first. If you know of a place send me a comment. Part of the The Crooked Toe Travel Blog travel blog |
