Relexa Hotel Stuttgarter Hof

I stayed at the Hotel Relexa Stuttgarter Hof for three nights during my short trip to Berlin in August 2009.

It was part of a package tour of Ameropa that included the train ticket, so it isn't easy to tell if the hotel was a good bargain.

If you check the internet for room rates, you get about 80 Euros as a result, which is ok for a 4-star hotel near Berlin Downtown.

The location of the hotel very good. It is located in Anhalter Straße, just 200 meters away from Anhalter Bahnhof, which was initially built in 1841 as a railway station, and was rebuilt in 1939 as an underground tram station.

There's a bus stop also, and subway stations are also in walking distance.

The hotel is in walking distance to Potsdamer Platz, Checkpoint Charlie and to some genuine remains of the Berlin wall just a block away, which makes it very interesting for people who like to do some sightseeing.

They gave me a room on 5th floor, which wasn't so spacious, but it was ok and had a nice balcony with view towards the city. Unfortunately the safe didn't work. After calling the front desk, a technician appeared within 5 minutes and dismanteled the safe. He couldn't get it to work, so after calling the front desk again, a bellboy came with the key for a new room.

So within about 15 minutes I was able to move to the room next door. Quite nice service!

Cleanliness was quite good, nothing to complain about. Amenities were the usual.

A minibar was provided, which I used to cool the beer I bought at a supermarket nearby hehe ;-)

A small TV set was present, which was able to receive some german and international programs.

Really annoying about the room was the fact that there wasn't an aircondition.

It got sooo warm in the room, so I opened the window at night... but there is too much street noise for a peaceful sleep!

The room rate included breakfast buffet, which is common in german hotels.

Well, it was quite ok, but I had much better breakfast buffets than that. Not what you expect for a 4-star hotel.

Wireless internet was available for free in the hotel lobby. In the rooms they offer T-Mobile WiFi, so you need to pay for it.

The guy at the front desk told me, that they plan to change the internet service, so it will be free everywhere in the hotel in the future.

Conclusion:

Overall the hotel was quite nice and I'd probably go there again.

However, if I had booked my hotel seperately, I'd probably have gone with one of the cheaper hotels next door, like the Etap or IBIS.

Those hotels usually don't include breakfast and might not be as comfortable, but hey, there's a nice restaurant offering nice and cheap breakfast just a few steps away and you'll not be in your room most of the time anyway, right?
