Relax Restaurant Pangandaran Reviews
Friendly restaurant with a personal touch by the beach Apr 01, 2012
Under Swiss ownership, Relax Restaurant provides an air of tranquility in the otherwise seemingly hectic town of Pangandaran on the south coast of Java.
Situated just off the main beach road, Relax is a rather quaint open-air restaurant that boasts inside and outside dining areas, both roofed to protect you from the elements. The doors are kept open to ventilate the establishment, since Pangandaran is extremely hot and humid! This also provides a welcoming and open feeling to the restaurant.
The staff were all local and extremely friendly. They also were able to speak English (not fluently, enough to get by). Efforts to communicate in the national language (bahasa Indonesia) certainly peaked their interests and seemed to boost their morale. The personal touch was provided by the owner who would casually move from table-to-table sitting and chatting with customers. Service was quick and efficient, food was served piping hot and the drinks served cold and refreshing.
The restaurant offers a wide choice of western and Indonesian cuisine at affordable pricing (20,000-30,000Rp for a main course). Western dishes included bratwurst (my favourite) and spaghetti bolognese. Asian dishes include the Indonesian national dish nasi goreng (fried rice). Refreshments such as Coca-Cola and Sprite are sold in contour glass bottles (the coolest). Condiments were readily available, from ketchup to sambal (praise the lord they had ketchup, sambal is too hot for me) along with salt and vinegar. Got to love a condiment.
All of the local lizards running around the walls and ceilings provided a form of entertainment (they are over all of the buildings in Pangandaran).
The only negative point that I must note is the owner. While she did make an effort to provide the personal touch and was never rude, her abrupt and mildly arrogant nature put me off a bit. If not for that, I would award this restaraunt *****. We felt so comfortable at this establishmnet we ate here every day during our stay in Pangandaran. Well worth a visit...or two....or three....
