This is a good day trip to take from Paris. It's only 40 minutes via train leaving Gare d'Est. We went specifically to visit the champagne cellars but the town of Reims itself is very charming. It has one of the most beautiful cathedrals I've seen (and I've seen many).
We visited Pommery and Taittinger while there for the day. Note that you'll have to make an appointment to visit the champagne cellars. Unlike Napa/Sonoma, you will have to do the one hour cave tours before tasting 1-2 glasses of champagne. In one day you'll be lucky to visit three champagne cellars.
