Had breakfast and fresh juice, and made my way to the bus stand. Bought my bus ticket to Erfoud, bus due to leave Marrakesh at 3.45pm, so spent time shopping, relaxing, eat sweet cakes and drinking coffee and tea.
The first bus broke down, so had to wait a while for the replacement bus, not overly excited about the 4 hour bus trip (memories from India keep coming back to haunt me!). Finally set off about 5.00pm
Made friends with a few people, a chinese couple, an american couple and a c…

We actually arrived in Meknes Friday evening. After a quick freshening up at the hotel we were packed into the "kidnap" van and taken to a lovely terraced restaurant in the medina. There we were served by the crazy and amusing Salim, who took a liking to Carolyn's eyes, hence calling her Fatima; and my name, which he pronounced Angel...ahh.On this day, we grabbed some cabs and were literally whisked around Meknes, taking in the palace, palace stables, a medieval prison, the medina quart…

For as long as I can remember I have had the insatiable desire to visit Morocco. I never understood why, so I was determined to visit the country to see if I could discover the answer. This was my 2nd trip to Africa in less than a year. Both trips were with the same friend. I knew this was going to be an incredible experience, but it definitely exceeded my expectations, despite becoming addicted to Moroccan mint tea!

After breakfast, we loaded up our gear and off we went on our way to the city of Fes via the Middle Atlas Mountains with several stops along the way including Ifrane and Meknes. It was another day of fantastic scenery as we were driving through the mountains. One of our first stops along the road, was a spot where a group of nomads usually wait for tourists to come by to take some photos. As soon as we stopped, they all came running down the hill, women, donkey…

I put this location as Erfoud as that, I think, is the closest main town to the Merzouga Sand dunes where we stayed the night. Note on the map how close we actually were to the border.
First let me tell you about the morning spent in the Todra village .........
Most of the girls decided to go for the optional guided palmerie walk this morning but a couple decided to rest up at the hotel, and Jade, Bec and I decided to get a lift down to the town and do a few jobs........internet…

The day was very eventful and long today....very enjoyable though.
Imaginative traveller says: Meknes is the perfect place to get lost in a traditional souq (market) where you'll find activity at every turn from local saw-millers to tentmakers sewing up sacks and colourful canvas; men selling finely ground salt direct from the source; flea markets heaving with everything you could ever need; woodworkers carving elaborate tables; metalworkers creating a din as well as carefully crafted wrough…

From Fes, I made a day trip to another Imperial City called Meknes. I didn't take too much interest in Meknes (more of the same) but spent some time at the Roman ruins in Voulibilis and at the little hillside town Moulay Idris (which is home to Moulay Idris' mausoleum).

The entry to the sahara was via 1hr 4WD 'safari' from the small town of Erfoud. our guide described the sahara as a 'flowing ocean of sand dunes' and it looked just like in the movies with camels to complete the picture perfectly (actually they are dromedarys - one hump - in morocco). The pictures tell the story!

Well, this is my first blog so, hope to show you some highlights of my travel.
I did this travel on April 2004 with my BMW R 1150 GS with 7 friends.
The travel was from Barcelona to Almeria. There we tooked Ferry Marroc to Nador and we expend only nights on each stop and traveled all days to the next stop.
Nador, Missour, Er Rachidia, Zagora, Merzouga, Ait Ben Haddou, Marrakech, Fez and Nador again. Amazing travel. 13 days long.
