It was day that I went to four cities, okay, technically three cities, as I only stayed in Milan for a few hours on a layover to Brussels. Once in Brussels I met with my friend and colleague to catch up on work and personal business. Unfortunately, it was raining and cloudy that day and I did not have a place to stow my luggage any where because they were renovating the train station. So it was a very quick tour of the Grand Place and the area surrounding it and then back to the train station…

Brussels, or Bruxelles in French, is a phenomenal city. It is quite hectic with a great many things to do, gorgeous women, two quite distinct languages (Flemish, which is Dutch, and French), a bustling nightlife and a great Grand Place city center. One would not run out of things to do over the weekend and it feels like the city is modern and very old, all at the same time. The Grand Place is amazing in its architectural beauty. Surrounded on all sides by some very old buildings, including the…

November 1
The hitching went finally well, despite the hard time to leave the spot I was
outside Cologne. I had to walk some km randomly as I knew there was a Gas
Station along the highway, so that was a bit of a trek through the woods and
such but I made it. On November 1st it was also a holiday for
Belgians especially and there wasn’t that many cars on the road or they were
quite packed. After some time (and being annoyed that dusk was arriving) I went
to ask a Belgian car, it tu…

I went to the ckeck-in counter and asked if my baggage was checked through. Of course she said, yes everything is just fine! At the security I got hit by a long - whatever that was - tube. She almost knocked me out! The pesron who was holding it did not even say sorry, but hey some people are .....
Very interesting what some passengers take on board!! Finally I made it to the gate ....

So after surviving London and the masses of tourists clogging the streets, we headed over that little bit of water to Belgium. Didn't actually flight into the city (naturally) and had to catch a bus to what was the dodgiest part of Brussels. Trying to get directions to the centre was interesting because the bus driver only spoke french and we were obviously giving the impression that we did also. With the stench of piss we attempted to head in the direction of his flaling arms.
After gettin…

Very scenic day today, with a drive along the Rhine River to Koblenz. The hills are dotted with lots of vineyards and old forts/castles at the top - even the train tunnels are turreted (apparently during WWII, Hitler and the Allies agreed that castles wouldn't be bombed, so Hitler ordered the train tunnel entrances be decorated like castle walls in the hope that they wouldn't be hit!). We stopped at St Goar to have a look at the famous Christmas shop, but not that impressive …

I was in a
hurry to go to Victoria Bus Station as I stressed about missing my bus. Luckily
I made it just on time. I managed to give my farewell to Susanne before living,
a part of me actually strongly wished to not leave and stay. That saddened me.
The bus
ride was going to be long, as it always is. Though I met some CS people on it
and had a joyful ride, especially as we shared some food (theirs being more
good than mine).
I made it
to Brussels late at night and went …

Wow... these are some old old photos of my very first trip to Europe mixed with a trip with my mum for grad research. The quality is pretty bad as I've had to scan them from hard copies, but c'est la vie.

Arrived in Brussels, found a quiet street with a few other campers parked there, so parked up, and ended up staying in there for 3 nights. Sampled the Belgie beers, and chocolates, the chocolates were delish, and the beers were strong! 12 percent, compared to the normal 4 or 5 in Australia! also saw the Atomium, a gigantic molecular structure consisting of nine shiny metal balls apprently left over from the 1958 World’s Fair.
As we were about to leave, realised we had a …

We are just now leaving Brussels having spent less than one full day in the city. We are on the move constantly as we are pretty much on a whirlwind tour of Europe at the beginning of this program. Last night we had a guided tour of the city which taught us that Brussels is a city famous for its beer and chocolate (both wonderful things). Left to our own devices for the evening, a bunch of us convened in the plaza in front of the town hall and sat to watch day turn int…
