Brussels (French: Bruxelles, Dutch: Brussel), officially the Brussels Capital-Region, is the capital city of the European Union (EU) and the largest urban area in Belgium. It should not be confused with the much smaller City of Brussels (founded circa 580) within it, which is the capital of Belgium (and Flanders) by law.Brussels has grown from a 10th-century fortress town founded by Charlemagne's grandson into a metropolis of more than one million inhabitants. After the end of World War II, B…

I left Ineke after an awesome couple of days to her math studies on the road towards Brussels. After getting to what I thought was going to the prime place to hitch a ride I waited a while at an intersection, then saw that someone a bit further down the road hitched and got a ride within a few minutes. Clearly a sign of where I was meant to be standing if I really wanted to get to Brussels, I went over and stood there in his place. In no time at all I was sitting in the back of a blue van wit…

I cannot recall the exact travel time we did from Zurich to Brussels, but I can remember that we had to regrettably drop-off of our itinerary the city of London, which we really would have loved to visit after Switzerland. When we bought our Globalpass, I was into the assumption that we can practically travel to any European city we choose. It was essentially right, but not in a case going to London, for example. We needed to pay 500 plus Euro (on top of what we paid for the pa…

I don't actually know when I'll be back, or where I'll be living, or what I'll be doing, but I'm pretty sure I'll have to find a job.

4 days 3 towns... everything i saw was in fast-forward mode but I enjoyed it very much.
Days 1 & 4
Brussels was very beautiful to me in comparison to Athens, that i find a preety agly town (or at least not as beautiful as it could be). Architecture was great, sensitive combination of old & modern buildings, art all over the streets, very interesting museums & exhibitions, fantastic parks & nice people...
I dont remember the names of the places I went, but I had a…

So while I was in the hostel in Brussles I thought it was a little strange that every night, it was just me in a room full of guys. Well as I was booking my Iceland hostel last night I realized why... my profile on hostelworld.com has me listed as male !! Lol I just switched it, not that I am complaining, I met some cool guys :o) But I just thought it was funny.

September 3I landed at Zaventem Airport so early that it was a bit dead... the long walk on the terminal to reach the passport check was long. Anyhow, it was an easy check again and I was waiting for my little empty bag. Then I simply walked out in the arrival, not really knowing what to do that early and my flight to London was in the later afternoon. Dumb of me, I could have booked one earlier. It was also a rainy day over Brussels and I finally decided that I didn't really have anything to d…

(I just wanted to put a random title. This blog doesn't have anything to do with brussel sprouts. Hehe.) I was moody for the entire morning especially when waiting to board the plane to Brussels. I also had my "monthly visitor" so it just made me more moody. Again, I stayed out late with Cindy last night. I told her that I had a flight in the morning, but oh well. Might as well spend my last night in Nice with my friend and drinking and listeni…

After the craziness that is Koninginnedag in Amsterdam, i decided a
trip to Belgium would be relaxing. It was just what I needed. I spent
my first two days in Brussels. I walked around, ate far too much
chocolate, drank delicious beer, and had a great night out with a
British friend of mine living there. My last day was spent in Brugge.
Brugge is such a picturesque place. Reminds me of a fairy tale. I
enjoyed walking around and also visiting a few museums.

Well, I had a great flight towards Munich and it was nice having U. with me on the plane from Munich to Brussels. I even got to see the Alps.
U. bought our shuttle bus tickets to the city centre, I guess, it would have been much harder for me. The problem developed when we missed our bus stop • right in front of the EU Commission, so we walked backwards to Rond Point Schuman.
Here are some pictures with explanations. Unfortunately, they donâ…

I am moving to Belgium. Seriously, I think I have found my people and I'm not budging. Well, I'm going to Bruges tomorrow, but maybe they'll still be my people. The top reasons why Bruxelles is awesome:
- You can walk the length of the city center in 15 min. At a comfortable 3.5 MPH, not even 4.0.
- People are SO friendly! And they are real Belgians - I have talked to tons and practiced my non-exixstant French and they are born and bred here and love it.
- Tod…

After an extra week in Graz I decided to get the bus rather than hitching back to Brussels because I had spent so long procrastinating about getting my visa that I just had to go there and do it. By this stage my visa in Belgium was long expired and I was operating on my three months as a tourist in the Schengen lands deal. Anyone who's spent any length of time in Western Europe should know about this craziness. Actually getting the visa in Antwerp was quite a painless process compared to my …
