Regent Hotel Mumbai Reviews
Jan 06, 2008
The Regent Hotel is in the Colaba area of Mumbai which is about an hours drive south of the airport. This area houses the Gateway of India, Elephanta Island, and the world famous Taj Hotel. The Lonely Planet guidebook described it as "being hit over the head with a marble hammer" and they werent kidding. There is a ot of marble but its clean and had an old world charm. They overbooked the hotel we were supposed to get a room with 3 beds since there are 3 of us but got a room with 2 so they brought an extra bed in for us. Instead of giving us a refund, which virtually will never happen to you in India they upgraded us to a junior cuit with a real shower. Now remember you are in India so this place had a western style toilet, room service, and laundry service. This hotel had a lot of Muslim guests who stared or just plain stopped talking when we would come into the lobby. Women wore full face coverings dressed in black so there was definitely a mix of religions at the Regent as in India. Breakfast is complimentary and you have a small selection, tea and toast it was for us most mornings. All in all we paid $200 each night to be close to the American discos and restaurants and it was worth it. Its also in walking distance of the art district which is nice to get out of the craziness of Colaba.

We stayed in the Regent Hotel. I'd tried to book the Ascot, and this is the sister hotel. It's fairly clean and comforable and the rooms are big (with a bit of an obsession with marble and mirrors). Location wise it's great, literally a few minutes… Smelly mumbai |
