Reef Bay Vacation Guide
Reef Bay, Saint John, is a secluded reef and beach located at the end of the Reef Bay trail, which is about a two and a half mile hike from Centerline Road. There is a well preserved, abandoned sugar mill at the end of the trail, which was the last in operation on the island. There are two side spurs off the main trail, the first is about two-thirds of the way down, and leads to a rock pool with ancient petroglyph carvings. The other is a side trail that leads to nearby Lameshur Bay. The trail and the sugar mill ruins are maintained by the National Park Service. You can sign up for a guided tour of this hike in the NP Visitor's Center in Cruz Bay, it is a good idea to reserve at least a week or more in advance. The advantage to doing it yourself, is that they arrange for a boat to pick you up at the end and return you to Cruz Bay, to avoid you having to hike back out uphill. It is not a difficult hike, though, if you are in decent physical shape. There is an assortment of wildlife to see on this hike, most notably deer and land crabs.
