Today was nuts!! Can I please start off by saying I FREAKING HATE HIKING. My meager attempts at exercise involve being in a seriously air-conditioned room on a treadmill doing not-very-fast with an iPod and a news periodical. It also involved leaving for a shower and a massage after 20 minutes. That my friends - is my idea of a workout. =)Mel, RJ and John promised us an easy hike. I was a little wary when I saw the sign which said "Icebox trail - 2.5 miles - DIFFICULT" and RJ flashed a sweet ...

Some of us did not make it home, or back to the hotel, until 4 a.m. after the meetup...but that didn't stop us from being a little adventurous the next day. Melanie, Tracy, Angel, and I decided we would spend part of the day at Red Rock Canyon and have a little picnic.
I rented a convertible during my stay and so the four of us hopped in and set out for beautiful Red Rock Canyon. Our plans were to put the top down but it was a bit windy and cool on Sunday and so we only put it do...

The kickoff to the meetup started Saturday morning with a hike at Redrock Canyon...or should I say the photoshoot for the Trav "buddy" pinup of the month calendar! (LOL)...I got to the Visitor's center and saw that RJ and I were the first ones there. That's a scary thought for whoever really knows me because I'm ALWAYS late for everything! It wasn't long before the convoy of the 3J express led by Melanie got there. Once pit stops and parking lot photos were done we embarked on our...

The following day Melanie arrived around noon to meet me for lunch. We had talked about having an American delicacy, a burger from In and Out but I was now at a point where my body was refusing lard, so she took me to Whole Foods. Salad! We sat in the sunshine enjoying the Red Rock Hotel pool and the scantily clad waitresses. I opted for a summer cocktail, while Melanie preferred her drink a little stiffer and drank half a pint of Vodka! At three o'clock James and Harriet arrived. Harriet bou...

This is a Vegas meet up first, instead of having in the evening it’s the whole entire day. The VEGAS MEET UP started at 10am at red rock canyon to go for an afternoon hike. We hiked ice box canyon it is difficult but, it was easy. It just has plenty of small rocks to walk over. We all pulled over the first point to take pictures. There were 4 cars. John drove his car; RJ drove his truck, James with his rental convertible and me with my car. Sal, john,...

Saturday, April 05, 2008. 10:00 am
After a night of partying and intoxication for some, I must say it was not easy to rise early in preparation for a hike of all things. The Red Rock Canyon hike was scheduled for 10:00 a.m., but we did not get started until a few minutes after 10:30 am. We all convened at the Red Rock Canyon National Park Visitor's center, a total of 11 hikers namely: Harriet (Me), Melanie, Jennifer, Joy, Jillian, James, Matt, Sal, RJ, Tracy, and John. We set off in 4 cars w...

Over the weekend of March 28, myself and several friends attended the 2008 Red Rock Rendezvous in Vegas. Some of us camped at the event and others got hotels (I camped obvioulsy) but we all had an amazing time. I was able to lead a sport climbing route for the first time and demo'd some very high-end Specialized mountain bikes. Even had the chance to check out Hoover Dam before catching our flight home. (the photos read like a journal)

We were in Las Vegas for the weekend for a Marine expo...Pretty strange having a Marine & Boat show in the desert...haha! I didn't have to work until Sunday so we planned a day trip into Red Rock Canyon. We rented a Jeep and rolled down the top for the drive out that morning. It was a pretty cool morning but we didn't mind, we wore our jackets and wanted to enjoy the open air. We arrived a short time later at the visitor's center and went in to look around at their information about the c...

So I slept at Sal's house cuz we were supposed to go hiking to see a glacier at I think Great Basin National Park... but alas... global warming has gotten the best of me and the only glacier in Nevada is melting... RJ had to inform us of that ahead of time... so then we were going to hike to a waterfall... but then Sal threw his back out and we got to drive around Red Rock Canyonand got to see the beauty that erosion does over a period of time... it was truly magnificent...even though it wasn...

Today we're heading to Red Rock Canyon ... along with all the FUN, we got to take in one sight before going home ... My hometown is a basin formed many years ago from a very large meteor rock hitting the Sudbury region ... resulting in the vast rocks ... but I we come closer to Red Rock Canyon I do see an obvious difference in the rocks here ... they are a rust red colour ... it's so neat ... if I was a geologist I'm sure I could tell you the exact type of rock in the canyon but for now I jum...

The best part about my trip is this little bit here.....While at the biker bar in Mountain Springs I went up to the bar and ordered a Corona with lime. I pushed the lime into the bottle and flipped it upside down to get the lime to the bottom. I flipped the bottle back up, and in doing so there was this straight arterial spray of beer, which doused the head and back of this tough looking biker sitting at the bar. I near about passed out from holding my breath in fear. Gosh I thought I would g...

I took a bus ride to Red Rock Canyon from Las Vegas, Nevada. The scenery is amazing, with the brightly coloured rocks, joshua trees and we were lucky to spot some wild donkeys. A big contrast from Vegas, so peaceful and serene, even in 110F heat.

Sometimes, you just need a bit of peace and quiet. It doesn't exist in Vegas so I went and hired a car and went on a bit of a road trip.
First stop, Red Rock Canyon. It's only a half hour drive from the strip and very easy to find. We stopped off to have a look around and take some pictures but when we got out of the car it was that windy I was nearly blown over. It was impossible to stand in one spot. So, we took some pictures and enjoyed the rest of the scenery from inside the car.
