Airport hotel May 28, 2014
We stayed at the Red Carpet Inn for one simple reason - it was the cheapest hotel close to the airport we could find. And I knew we definitely would have to book in advance to avoid problems with US immigration and filling out the ESTA forms. We arrived late at Fort Lauderdale airport at night and we would leave for Bahamas the next day. Hence we wouldn’t be using any of the hotels amenities - so when we looked for hotel we basically just looked into location and price.
The hotel has a shuttle service to and from the airport if you call for it - it will run from 6 in the morning till around midnight. When we arrived it had gotten pretty late after we had cleared immigration and customs so we couldn’t be bothered to wait for the pick so we took a taxi since we thought it would only be around 10 dollars - unfortunately it turned out to be about 20 dollars instead - but I guess you win some and you lose some.
The check in was quick and we got the room on the second floor quickly so we could get in and rest. The room was facing sort of a courtyard around a pretty big swimming pool so there was no noise from the road out in front - and despite the fact we were at the airport we couldn’t hear any planes during the night - it may be due to the fact the air-conditioning seemed to drown all other sounds when it was turned on.
The room was pretty big with a big king-size bed - we had a peak into other rooms which were equipped with two beds which made the rooms seems smaller - though I am pretty sure they were the same size as our room. There were a couple of chairs and a table like and lots of empty space in the room. The bathroom was functioning and sort of what you will expect for a typical US motel room. The air conditioning worked fine and was able to cool the room - but it came at the cost of a lot of noise. There was free Wi-Fi in the room which was pretty fast.
Unfortunately breakfast isn’t included in the rate of the room which was a bit of a downside to the room. But there is a restaurant at the motel which serves both breakfast and other meal - though we only used it for breakfast. The breakfast is decent and the menu is pretty straightforward American breakfast. The service in the restaurant was a bit funny - since there was no other guest when we entered the restaurant so it took a while for the serve to spot us - after this service was quick and efficient and the food was what you would expect for a place like this.
We used the shuttle service to go to the airport. It left once an hour so we ended up going on the 11 shuttle to the airport. There was nobody else leaving on this shuttle so we had it all to our self and there was no waiting time dropping of other passengers at other terminals at the airport.

Good Motel to stay for a night May 29, 2014
Hotel located near Fort Lauderdale airport. It was easy to reach by taxi, which takes more or less around 10 minutes’ drive, but a bit costly than what we expect, it cost usd20 one way. The motel actually provided free pick up to and from airport, however guest need to call the motel when arrive in the airport. Since we just had a long flight across the continent and had a long queue at the immigration and customs, we want to go straight to the motel without waiting for the motel pick up, and we do not have a local phone sim card at that time, hence we take taxi.
The reception area was spacious and inviting with warm pastel colour on the ceiling and blue colour on the wall with light decoration, and plenty of soft sofa chairs to sit on. Check in was smooth and the reception was friendly, we get the room key immediately, with a map how to reach the room. We were surprised to find that the motel was quite large and has lots of rooms in the back of the main reception building and big garden across from the parking lot.
We have room on the second floor on the first building on the left side, and the room facing the swimming pool. We did not try the swimming pool, so we were not sure if the water was cool or warm, but it was quite while we were there.
Our room was spacious with plenty of space to move around and there was a couple of chairs and table, desk and a hand basin inside the room instead of the bathroom.
The king size bed was huge with plenty of pillows and very comfortable – I wish I could take that bed back home. The bathroom has a bathtub and good in size, the shower work well with good water pressure. The cleaner has done a good job cleaning the room. There was space to hang cloth with several hangar on it next to the hand basin.
The minus point was the air condition, once we turn it on, the machine was like a hungry lion, it roar and makes so much noise. After a while, we decided to turn it off and sleep without the air condition and no blanket. Luckily it was not that warm and we were tired after long flight, so we sleep well that night.
Since the room rate doesn’t include breakfast, we have to pay extra for it when we try their restaurant in the morning. It seems we were the only customer when we had our breakfast and I try the local breakfast which called corn porridge or something, with fried eggs and sausage. Taste was strange and I could not eat that that. The eggs and sausage was okay. What surprise me was so many big tabasco sauce bottle on each table, since I never see big tabasco sauce bottle before.
After breakfast, we booked the free transport to go to airport from the reception. It seems they go to airport every hour, and we were the only passengers at that time.
The motel cost usd61 per night inclusive tax.
